View Full Version : tach install lesson learned!
jalldredge 27th April 2007, 14:41 Justin,
I love this thing! I can't believe how much I have been lugging my motor.
Here are some mistakes I made:
1. left my watch on, and my sleeves down--good way to scratch the paint.
2. didn't pay attention to how the chrome cover came off the riser
3. I didn't look at the suitcase connector to see that one side was a complete wire pass through and the other was dead ended or blocked.
4. I started just before sundown. I had to move to where my porch light illuminated the area.
5. I should have been the first to order one!
Great product, thanks for the quick shipping.

jgaither 27th April 2007, 17:37 Jimmie,
Thanks for suggestions and compliments, and I hope you didn't scratch too much with your watch.
I will be making an update to the install instructions soon, so I will try to keep them in mind.
Make sure to show it off any chance you get.
Cheers,
Justin

Bert
the link on the banner at the top of this page does not work,

I am still working on getting a machine shop willing to make them. I ended up doing the 3D model myself. I have RFQ out to about 1/2 dozen shops. I expect them to get quotes back next week. After that it should be a couple weeks to get parts and assemble. If that falls through, I am prepared to buy a CNC myself and get it done.
Unfortuanately, it wont be a cover. That idea fell through. However I will allow anyone who has bought one to trade up for what it would have cost for a cover. Its gonna look way better this way. I will try to get a picture posted of the 3D model by next week.
Cheers,
Justin

jgaither 30th April 2007, 14:33 It looks good on the drag bars!
Enjoy!
CT1200 1st May 2007, 15:27 Ya its right in plain view. Only thing I could recommend is to use a black face so that the digits would contrast a bit better. In direct sunlight its hard to see but all you need is a little shade and then its fine. All in all though a very good product...
seajay 1st May 2007, 15:43 I helped install my buddy's Sunday. It was a lot easier with the speedo detached from the riser. Took all of a 1/2 hr.
jalldredge 1st May 2007, 19:39 Seajay, Ithink you are right on that, I concidered removing the whole riser. Laziness overcame me. If I had waited a day or two I would have pulled the tank for a petcock and a carb change out, that would have given more room too. my biggest problem is short fat fingers.!
stretch7 1st May 2007, 19:44 That tach looks sooooo... good...Any news of when the tach for the early models will go into production?
Chris.
rfranz1952 2nd May 2007, 00:43 Does anybody know how accurate this tach is? The company tachs have a rep for being inaacurate.
I've been looking at this one for some time--trying to decide. Difficult to find a place to mount a conventional tach. The company version ends up costing about $400.00, and I don't like the way it mounts. Some aftermarket conventional tachs are cheaper, but also don't mount well. All the digitals I have looked at are also pretty costly. This appears to be the way to go.

All, I can say is I am working on it. I have it working on TC88's and 04+ TC.
I know I can do it; its getting it done that is hard.
Sorry I cant commit to a date right now,
Justin

Since the 04+ get exact digital RPM numbers from the ECU they are dead-on accurate. Inaccuracy comes in when you need to measure the pulses. The accuracy for bikes older than 04 will be +/-2%. This is based on the accuracy of the internal timing reference. But I haven't released those yet.

milmat1 25th June 2007, 21:52 I would love to see a short video of it in operation, To see the display as the engine revs would be great. I like the idea of the Micro-Tac. And the simple mounting.
Just a little curious about how it displays the R's when the engine is revving, Many digitals that I have seen are hard to read depenably as a shifting tool, Because as they are constantly changing they are hard to read, As for Shift points.. Any opinions ?????
humgums 25th June 2007, 22:03 I find mine very easy to read, even in bright sunlight. It stabilizes quickly.

milmat1 25th June 2007, 23:12 I am seriously thinking of ordering one of these, I love the concept of the small out of the way tach ! And I would imagine unless it was in the direct sun the LEDS should be quite visible !
For the price, It's hard to beat !!
I geuss what i'm asking is does it update at a rate whereas you can keep up with the R's and use it as a Shift indicator ??
EDIT: How long did it take to get it ??

Yes it updates at a rate where you can keep up with it and use it as a shift indicator. I generally use the engine sound to tell me when to shift but do look down from time to time (like when approaching a hill) to see if I should shift or not.
I think it arrived a few days after I ordered it.
Delzore 26th June 2007, 00:00 Justin was real quick with the shipping.
Have had mine installed for quite some time now. Actually upgrading to the Chrome {Bling Bling} version.
It is very stead, and as it does not display the ones or tens place (there are only 2 number leds and not 4, it pretty good about not fluctuating too much on you.. pretty steady both up and down..
i can see about getting some video of it under slower and faster acceleration and get it posted...
Great product. Comes highly recommended.. :)
milmat1 26th June 2007, 01:44 Thanks Everyone !!
