Well, I just installed a Sylvania SilverStar bulb in my 04 ... Big help, but I still think that the new 05 headlamp lens (P/N 68297-05) would make it even brighter.

The best price I have found for this $74.00 MSRP headlamp lens is $59.20 + shipping from https://www.surdyke.com/hd/catalog.asp (kinda pricey)

Couple of questions:

1. Do you think it will make much of a difference in light intensity?

2. Do I need the new headlight clamp to install this on my 04, or will my old clamp work?

3. Does this come with a new bulb? If so, do you think it is any better than my SilverStar, or just the same bulb as my stock one which I have replaced?

Thanks for any input

1.) Don't know the answer to this one.
2.) No new clamp needed... it is the exact same setup
3.) My '05 lamp camp with the same bulb that is in the '04

I have just installed this 05 unit and it does make a difference (but not spectacular), you do get a bulb with it but I put in my Philips hi-power that I had before. Looks good though.

The OEM bulb is not bad, but I like the Silver Star better. If you aren't enthralled by the 'whiter-than-white' look, the Sylvania/Osram Xtravision bulb puts out the same lumens for about half the price. I hadn't ridden behind the '04 lamp, but I am impressed at the sharpness of the horizontal cut off on the 05 lamp...very similar to the European H4 beams...easy to get maximum distance on low beam without blinding oncoming traffic.

A friend of mine just put the 05 Sporty light on his 03 Soft Tail. He said it made a big difference in brightness and clairity, and the low beam provides better visibilty of the road, especially in low lying fogs. What clamp he used I don't know, but the wiring was no problem.

I put it on mine. I think it made quite a difference.
