It hasn't been driven more than 350 miles.. No time. But now I'm trying to get back into riding it and it's giving me a problem. It's all "like new" and also I have gotten all the liquids changed. Carburetor is cleaned. (Got some dirt out and figured that was the problem but apparently not)

Could be a good idea to check for air leaks. Here's how:
Intake And Exhaust Leaks Tests

We talking carb farts or exhaust backfiring... the later is a problem, the carb farts are normal for a sportster

Backfiring through Carb, Or Popping in the exhaust ??

Since it has set for a while, I would suspect an Exhaust Leak ??

There not "Normal" for any engine. It's just that many Sportsters do this because they are not tuned correctly..You don't have to live with Sloppy response and carb farts...;)

Occsaional ones, maybe. If there are regular, frequent, carb farts, then there's an air leak or the carb mixture (pilot jet, parallel part of needle) is lean.

it backfires thru the carb.. im guessing its the fuel filter in the tank but then again, it appears to be putting out too much fuel into the carb possibly making it backfire.. does that make sense? (i guess what im saying is it appears to be flodding the carb with gas maybe making it backfire)
