I installed the new 30 tooth aluminum pulley on my 02 883 Custom and tried to adjust the belt. When I spun the tire backwards, the belt would slid towards the inside of the pulley and when I spun it forward, it would slide next to the lip on the pulley. Is this normal?

I haven't road tested it, but did trailer it up to college with me, so I hope I didn't !!!! something up.

Off topic, but the method to check the belt alignment is one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen.

Most belts will off track when the tire is turned backwards. If it tracks normal going forward then don't worry.

Ok, Great then.

Does anyone know of a better way to adjust the belt. It feels a little off yet.

The good news is that now I can run 20 in 1st and its not even talking!!!

I found this to help align a bike, but its out of my budget.

My belt is chirping once in awhile since dealer put on my rear pulley cover. Talked about it yesterday and they said exactly what you said, tends to track to inside of pulley backwards and to outside of pulley going forwards. They said they'd adjust so it doesn't rub on outside of pulley and chirp going forward....

Did you notice any difference in the way it drove after they put it on? Mine isn't chirping, but it just doesn't feel as though it used to and I can't for the life of me find a truly accurate way to align it.
