This was reported in our local newspaper. It happened a few miles from where my Mother lives on a road I've traveled many times over the years...

A 31-year-old Lexington man was among three Midlands traffic fatalities on Sunday..

Bradley E. Brazell, was pronounced dead at Lexington Medical Center at about 3:40 p.m. after the 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was riding struck a sport utility vehicle on Fish Hatchery and Placid Valley roads, said the Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.

The collision occurred about 2:50 p.m. when the SUV, driven by a teenager, failed to yield to the southbound motorcycle, said patrol spokesman Bryan MacDougald.

Brazell, of 141 Bellerive Drive, was taking the motorcycle to a relative, said Assistant Lexington County Coroner Todd Caughman. Most of his injuries were to his chest, Caughman said.

Brazell collided with a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 16-year-old from Gaston who was turning left onto Placid Valley Road, MacDougald said.

Brazell was not wearing a helmet, but Caughman said he doubts it would have saved him. Two teenagers in the SUV were not seriously hurt.

No charges have been filed and an accident reconstruction team is investigating, MacDougald said.

"We are invisible...we are invisible...we are invisible...."

Make that your mantra as you're driving...it almost sounds like a Sporty exhaust sound...."you are invisible"...

Eye contact isn't foolproof, but do that in addition to all your other motorcycle survival skills. At least you'll be able to see what ear they have their cell phone in!
