View Full Version : Cooks Corner in Orange County, CA.
Loco 11th April 2005, 22:40 My Uncle, Cousin and myself stopped in at Cooks Corner on Saturday morning for a quick bite before heading to Lake Elsinore via Ortega Hwy. The place is an oldschool bikers hangout in the Hills for those who do not know. Anyways, as we were leaving this older gentleman (early 50's) was trying to turn off his alarm by using the key fob. Dude had no clue. This guy had a brand new 05 Dyna Wide Glide with the H-D factory flames paint job. The bike was awesome.
Dude was wearing H-D up to his eyelids. I head over with my Uncle and we asked if he needed any assistance? He said that his key fob is not working and that the group of riders he was with left him behind. I went ahead and clicked his key fob twice and the alarm disengaged no problem. He then got on the bike and was slamming the gears to find nuetral, the fuel is not on. I asked him if he had experience on a scooter of this magnitude? "Oh sure, been riding my whole life!" as he is struggling to figure out how to turn the fuel on. HE STILL HAD THE YELLOW DEALER TAG ON HIS KEY RING!
Well he seemed sober and then after I click the tank valve, he found nuetral and fired her up. As he pulled, I think he was in 2nd gear and overreved the engine bigtime as he missed a shift and damn near hit the ditch on the side of the road. I thought about that dude off and on until I hit Ortega HWY.
Some people are just that way. I hope he lived to ride another day... :yikes

socal1200c 11th April 2005, 23:06 Hey Loco, we were all there Saturday morning too. Too bad we couldn't have had you along on the socal forum run! We actually took the same path that day.
I see guys like him (RUBs) all the time at cooks. Some of those guys never ride any farther than that... Hopefully he made it to where he was going and didn't take out anyone else along the way :yikes
Kelley 11th April 2005, 23:52 Did you see that water cooled bike there w/ the HUGH fuel tank???? It looked like it was going to explode

We had to take a detour(took Majestic road up and around the accident scene) due to an ATV accident that shut down the road heading to Cooks. Life Flight had to come in. It was actually one of those Workman/cushman carts that came down a steep hill and into the highway and then got t-boned by a Chevy Silverado. It was a bad scene. I would like to get in touch with you since you are right around the corner from me. I would have loved to joined you guys for that socal run. When we finally got to Cooks, we sat and talked with some guys from Rolling Thunder. My Cousin is in the Marine Corp. Home on leave due to an auto accident. He was riding pillion with his Dad, my Uncle...
I saw a COUPLE of bad ass Sportsters one with highbars. What time were you guys there? Maybe it was you? I was wearing a levi jacket with a leather vest and some patches. But then there probably were a few dressed like me. Not very crowded at all at that time which surprised us because the weather was very nice...

Were you guys standing at the entrance? I explained the accident up the road when we came up to a bunch of guys standing at the entrance!
I was the one in a levi jacket and leather vest. On a side note a F-cking bee stung me at 65 MPH. He got his ass end stuck into me while the rest of him got flicked via my hand...I pulled the stinger out at the stop. Awesome day!

I remember it now. You guys took off before we did becasue I remember seeing his bike heading out and admiring it with the highbars. The accident I explained just happened about 10:30 am so we were stopped and parked. Blocked in from both ways. Then we u turned and took Majestic Road around. We came back through Ortega from Lake Elsinore so it must have been about 4:00 pm and I didn't see or hear of any accidents. Maybe we made it through. That Ortega HWY is not a ride for the weak at heart or for newbies...We stopped at lookout point and took a couple of pictures. The wind wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I live real close (Lampson Ave by St. Olafs Church) and my old lady is real cool. I ride usually alone but with you guys so close and now that I have your faces to names and actually talked to you guys (all of you guys were real cool) I would like to ride with ya...

Albie1200 12th April 2005, 00:50 How freaking funny is that. I was telling the guys at lunch that I hardly see any sportsters on the road, yet I saw like 3 others on the way to Tom's. Now we come to find out that we were talking to a fellow XL Forum member just blows me away! It truly is a small world! Now we need to get all of us SoCal XL riders together for a ride. I believe I have the weekend of Apr.23 open, or the first weekend of May. Hey Midnight, you say there was an crash on Ortega, glad I decided to hit the superslabs with Bill on the way home. A little traffic, but not bad. To top it off I beat my wife home! When I got home I almost turned around and went on another ride. I decided to surprise my wife by being home early. Of course that means the next ride I will stay out twice as late! Again it was a real pleasure riding with you guys, especially since we had not ridden together as a group before. I wish I could say the same about some of the OCHOG rides I have been on!
Broncodog 12th April 2005, 01:01 :laugh :laugh I'll be dammed! a forum member and we talked to boot! Yea we stopped at the lookout also, pics are on the board from the lookout!:

The nickname Loco has been with me since little league days because well, many thought that I was a bit off or as my Mom says "LOCO!" Those who knew me back in the day called me Loco and it stuck with me. It has always been a part of me. But my real name is Tim.

Good deal. God Bless the United States Military. Keep an eye on the Organized Rides forum for the details. Many are looking good for the 23rd of April. I actually meet 5 of the folks on this forum during the SoCal Run I at Cooks Corner in Orange County, CA and didn't even know it. I'm a newbie to these forums and did not check the organized ride forum. If I had my Uncle and I would have meet up with them. We all rode the same route that day but on different time schedules. Looks like it might be a nice turn out for this ride (SoCal Run II).
