In the instructions on putting on my slip on mufflers it says Harley Davidson recommends the muffler clamp assemblies be discarded and replaced each time they are removed. Did you do this? How about the gaskets? Thanks

On the '05's they say to replace the gaskets but nothing about the clamps. The clamps they used on the '05's should last for years....:geek:geek:geek

Yes, I fitted new clamps and new crossover pipe gaskets.

To ensure sealing integrity of muffler clamps and prevent the possibility of leakage, Harley-Davidson recommends that torca muffler clamp assemblies be discarded and replaced each time they are removed. In the instructions for my H-D slip-on mufflers it says to replace the clamps and the gaskets. The kit came with new clamps and gaskets.

When its damaged, I replace it. But what for should I do it when they are still good. And why the clamps should be damaged under normal conditions?????

Ciao Alex

I think they stretch, and then they don't clamp tight enough if you take them off and tighten them up again. They are one use only.

I replaced the slipons on my '05 and I kept the original gaskets and clamps. Normaly, I'd have replaced them, 'cause they don't cost that much, but it was cold and Sunday so I just wanted to get done and not wait another day. Worked out OK for me.

i reused the old clamps and crossover gaskets with no concerns. don't be lazy, loosen the exhaust at the head at a minimum...i took mine completely off so i could lift straight up without damaging those little 7 buck gaskets. does fine.

The clamps should be replaced. They are one time use only. The band that clamps around the muffler stretches and once it's stretched it doesn't tighten as well the second time. Someone said "don't be lazy": don't be cheap or lazy, do it right and replace the clamps.
