Just for anyone else that may have followed a couple of the posts I made about cam selection, I have decided on the following:

After a long talk with Nallin today, there are a couple of things they confirmed that some of you have already stated before:

1. The stock cams in the 04-05 XL1200 are identical to the 03 and previous XL1200 'Sport' model cams. Not the regular 03 and previous XL1200 cams.

2. The 249/249 .551"/.551" SE cams specific for the 04-05 XL1200 are in fact identical to the cams found in both the Buell XB-9 and XB-12.

3. Nallin recommends the SE cams over the Andrews N4 in these new 04-05 motors. They said the SE cams will give more lower rpm torque and still will have a greater high rpm potential than the Andrews N4 due to the differences in overlap and cam timing.

They also agreed that due to the already large ports & valves in the stock Buell XB heads found on the 04-05 Sportys, I would be well off just getting the Stage 1 work done to my heads vs the 'Big Valve' Stage 2 work (unless I plan on other engine mods that would allow me to spin the engine to around 7,000 revs, which I am NOT going to do) ... I would hope that my engine would not need to be spun above about 6,300 revs with the SE cams and Nallin stage 1 headwork.

What I am going to do is dyno my stock stage 1 bike as it is in order to get a baseline ... Then install a set of the SE cams and dyno again ... Then have my heads CNC ported by Nallin to there stage 1 specs (stock valves) and dyno again ... Useing the same dyno on all of this.

Prior to any of this, I am installing an 'SE' ignition module that will allow for a 7,000 rev limit. This will at least provide the oportunity to find out exactly at what rpm the engine peaks it's max HP at with the various mods ... Obviously, the stock 5,800 rev limiter would limit me from finding out exactly where the motor peaks at.

Anyway, this is how I am going about this.

Sounds like a great plan. Keep us posted on the results.

Ron, having just dyno'd mine with that spec (apart from the 42mm carb I have) you should see similar results. If you look at the 05 Screamin Eagle cat on page 19 there is a comparison graph with these specs vs original.
