I have forward controlls on my 883R, but lately i have been wondering if i should go back to my mid controls again, what do you think?

Reasons for going back:

Im 182cm and the forwards does not give me the stretch i was looking for
Mids have a more classic look
Better handling and controll!?

I like having mids with highway pegs. It gives you different positions which helps out on long trips.

I think with the chop look you got going forwards look great plus they are mighty comfy.. You could go to the mids with highway pegs but im not big on the cluttered look.

I think your bike looks sharp the way it is, but if you don't feel comfortable, change it back to mids. Keep the forwards for future reference.

I guess you could keep the controls as forwards, and just install some pegs where the mids would be, just as an alternative place to put your feet. See if you like riding with your feet there in that mid position - and if you do, then actually swap the controls (shifter, brake) back to mid.

or you could get some forward controls that sit forward more than the standard controls available like these

I went back to mids in March. The bike rides better and I have better control. I can lean over alot further without dragging pegs. My confidence on the bike increased. My bike is going through some changes and going back to mids fits right in.

I went back to mids after 7 years with forwards. I keep highway pegs on for stretching out. I'm 182 cm with an 84cm inseam. I won't go back to forwards. You just have to get used to riding with your legs bent more... easier for me since I had a sportbike for 8 years.

Thats what I have been thinking about doing on mine...
Have a good one...Tater...

No one can answer this but you, and it looks like you did...

Better handling and control?

I don't agree with this. I've been riding front controls since 1982 and have no problems controlling my scoot in the twisties.

There's a huge difference between "no problems" and "better control".

There's also a reason you don't ever see a track bike with forwards, ever.

You can disagree all you want about what you prefer, but not what actually performs better.

Whether or not the difference is insignificant, especially on the street, is debatable (though personally I believe it is significant enough).

I toyed with putting forward on my bike, but decided not to after my first long ride (was long to me then) becuase I liked the option of having highway bars instead so I could move my feet.

The main other reason why I didn't switch is so I can stand up if I see a big bump coming and let my legs absorb the shock rather than my spine.

Control? Well all I can say is I feel more comfortable when approaching anything sharper than a wide sweeper if I move my feet to my mids rather than my highway pegs. Part of that is having my feet near my controls, but a very large part is pure comfort in my ability to control my bike.

If you still have your mids, I suggest putting them on and doing some riding to find which are more comfortable to you with your style of riding. If you feel you have better control with them, add a set of highway pegs for stretching the legs.

I have mid controls with highway pegs on my nightster. I feel I have more control over the bike with mids, and I can stand up on the bike to absorb the really bad bumps on the road like ParrotHead said. But most importantly, when I ride into a town and slow down, I can stand up for many seconds on the mid pegs and stretch my gluteus maximus.

It's a Personal Preference PERIOD !

You have to decide, Do you still have your mids ??
