Jesse_Bolt 20th April 2005, 06:34 I stumbled across this web site MyBuell.com (http://www.mybuell.com) and was wondering if there was any truth to it. After reading it, it sounded like bull:censor to me.
Comments please

toothygrin 20th April 2005, 07:16 Looks like the're all railing against Blasts mostly.
The Blast is an inexpensive entry level motorcycle, one that trades hands often, isn't properly cared for and is dumped mor regularly by new riders.
Sounds like sour grapes to me.

missyd 20th April 2005, 07:39 Maybe only some of the written is true ...
But I read some similar things about the older Buells on another forum. And I think their comments where 100% true. :shhhh

I was looking for information on the XB12S when I stumbled across that site. There aren't many Buells in my area so I can't ask anyone here about reliability. ¿So you're saying the older Buells were problematic?

Jeffytune 20th April 2005, 07:49 Hi.
I read through most of this dribble, it seems to me that is ben written by one person.
Ingemar 20th April 2005, 10:59 Buells used to have reliability problems. That site is outdated and none of it applies to the buells sold today. The owner needs to suck up his loss and get on with life. Take that website to the bin.
maddog 20th April 2005, 11:43 I bump into Buell owners all the time at the local bike hangout in Port Jeff, NY and they all love their bikes. Never heard a bad word about them.
GRAYFEATHER 20th April 2005, 11:54 Hm don't know is it for real are some sad ass who dont like Buells

gronk62 20th April 2005, 12:15 I owned, from new, a Buell X1 lightning for 11 trouble plagued months.
It was sensational fun to ride but had way to many recalls and was very unreliable.
The fit and finish was awful and the quality of a lot of the frame and bodywork components was substandard.
I'm led to believe the newer XB buells are a much better product than the earlier tube frame models and I think they are one of the sexiest lookin' "street fighters" on the road but I could never own one again for fear of it turning out to be as bad as my X1 was.
Once bitten, twice shy :frownthre
Jesse_Bolt 21st April 2005, 16:35 Hey guys and girls ;), this wasn't posted to bash the Buells. I appreciate your responses as I am interested, curious in a XB12S. Additionally, I am looking for a used beginner bike for my daughter.
There seems to be a consensus that some of the older Buells were plagued with problems. The XB12S, being a newer model wouldn't or shouldn't be included in that consensus.
As for a Blast, to me a 2000 model looks pretty much like a 2005 model. ¿Are there years I should avoid?
I've been asking around and I found a guy where I work, his wife has a Blast and he says she likes the way the bike handles and rides. However she has experienced the leaking rocker box and had to replace the primary chain. With over 5,000 miles on the clock, she is looking at her second set of tires. OK, to a real rider, stuff happens and stuff has to be replaced. The guy was quick to suggest I should consider a metric for a beginner bike. I told him about mybuell.com and to let me know what he thought about it. They have some friends with a Blast and I want to ask them how they like it.

planb 21st April 2005, 17:16 I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not, but there's a dealer in Washington State selling 2004-5 Blasts for $2995.00...if that is a super deal, perhaps they'd have a good deal on an XB12S for you, too...Forward Air or another bike transporter could get it to your house for a small charge...although I'm wondering if the shipping would kill any savings you would get...just a thought anyway!

rlowride 11th May 2005, 03:41 i didnt read the site.. but my friend has an 03 xb9s, boiught it new in the begining of 04....nothing but problems with the bike, quality reliability, and dealer!
parts fall off of it.. the transmission has broke 3 times.. the bike has left him stranded out of town a few times..
I too had once considered a Buell.. but after first hand accounts and loading him up on our trailer, i do feel that if a sport/cafe bike is in my future it will be a jap.....
I was just reading."The rear sproket exploded, the belt hit me in the back, I lost control when the rear belt guard got caught in the rear wheel and caused me to run off the road and into a ditch where I flipped the bike."
Has a rear belt ever hit you or any one you know? I've broken belts and chains and have never been hit with any thing.
jwb47 26th May 2005, 00:49 im wondering the same thing I have a hard time seeing this happen. also I just dont believe that any manufactuer can keep turning out junk year after year and stay in buisness. you hear all the time stay away from this bike or that bike do to problems I read where honda vtx's were having problems with welds if that is the case im sure they will take measures to correct it and im sure buell will do the same if there is a confirmed problem.
Bill2 23rd June 2005, 04:27 Back around 2000 i read bad reports on them. I was looking at a used 2001 xb9 and the sellsman said "you don't want that thing" But that was then there alot better now. They did have alot of problems starting out!

I've changed my mind about purchasing a Blast. While at Myrtle Beach Bike Week, I test drove a Blast at the demo rides. It did not take long to conclude the Buell Blast is a disappointment; even for a beginners' bike. I will take my friends advice and get a metric.
Still considering an XB12S for an addition to the stable.

bplinson 26th June 2005, 08:29 J.B. The best source of information on the Buells is at www.badweatherbikers.com . Yuo might wanna ask around there.
mavinwy 27th June 2005, 15:06 The badweb guys are great.
I had a Blast for a couple of years before the Sporty (was not doing any highway, just commuting to work) It was great fro that, which is one of it's intended purposes as well as being a "beginner" bike. Never had any problems with it. The really early ones had a rear sprocket recall, and until 2001 they came with a paper rocker box gasket that eventually was replaced with a metal one.
My father was impressed enough with mine that he bought one for commuting to work, 30 miles a day at 70mpg is good with him.....
Taken care of they are just fine.

john648 2nd July 2005, 05:36 the thing is they were using old sporty tech grafted into whiz-bang chassis, paint shaker sportsters were hard on the whole package. i love my o4 sportster and think i owe it to buell based refinements. i know the big mod for my 883 is to bump it up to 1200 sportster specs. but if i had the money i'd love to convert to a xb12 motor in my sportster chassis. that seems like it would be a killer.
moresnornster 6th July 2005, 04:59 I went test rode a 2005 xb12s and I loved it. The guys at the dealer say that before 03 they were a mess and the buells are getting better and better as the years go by. But the xb12s will be my next bike
sportysrock 17th July 2005, 04:06 How could they be sooo bad? When did HD take Buell under it's wing?
I just don't get it. :frownone

1st off that salesman does not earn the title "salesman". He's a moron.
Something else is not right ....
In 2000 you heard a bad report. FYI july 2002 was the introduction of the xb9. I got one of the first and its production date is july 2002. That bad report cannot have been about the XB line of bikes.
And for anyone else's info, Believe it or not but the XB line of bikes is proving itself to be one of the most reliable bikes on the market.
I can't wait; It's a few more days and we will hear all about the new models for 2006. Keep an eye on the Buell website if you're interested.

Of course this is a great site! :D
But I'm curious, what's wrong with Badweb? Just asking. I for one really like it down there.
