Yes, it does. Even a 4.25" wide rim will fit. What you need to look at is the tire width. Most 140s will fit with maybe the only mod needed being trimming or removing the lower belt guard. Anything wider than a 140 will probably need the Uquackmeup belt offset, or a chain. ;)

I've got an 18" laced wheel on the back of my sporty, but no decent pictures. I think it balances the bike nicely. 19" laced on the front.

18" x 3.5" running a Bridgestone BT45 150/70-18

This fits without any clearance issues on an '04 and later bike, I'm not sure about earlier bikes as there is a bit less room to play with.
