I can't believe it, but i have not ever, until tonight, removed the ignition module cover on my EVO. So now i see that my bike has a Screamin' Eagle ignition module marked as follows:
7500 RPM REV
32969-98 97276
A prev owner installed it. I assume it is somehow better than the factory module. Don't know much about it. Any comments appreciated.
The engine is a 1998 883 converted to 1200. Again by a PO so i do not know what components were used. The red line on the tach is 6200. I rarely push it past 5000. I can't imagine going to 7500.

The SE module 32969-98 was meant for highly modified engines, including cc upgrades according to my 98 catalogue. Unless the engine has a stronger top-end modification as well, such as solid lifters you would be unwise to go to the max. You never know the previous owner might have done that as well.

What is meant by "cc upgrades"?

That's kind of a bonus. Do you know if the valves and/or valve springs, lifters or other parts were also upgraded? You may have some investigating to do.

OK. so "cc" means cubic centimeter; ya, it was upgraded from 883 to 1200.
I do not know if the valves and/or valve springs, lifters or other parts were also upgraded. I am REALLY curious about this but the best advice i get is to not be peeking in there until there is some technical reason to tear it down. It runs great so i suppose i will leave it alone and just suffer with my unfulfilled curiosity.
It has "cheap paper base gaskets" that leak. They do not leak really badly, but enough to make a bit of a mess, especially if i exceed 90 mph for extended periods of time. I do not understand why the DPO did not use good gaskets. especially after spending good money on that ig mod. If they start to leak worse then maybe that will be a reason to see what is in there.
I really would like to know what is in there.

According to my '98 SE catalogue that ignition module is only for 1200 models (not S) so I don't know why the guy put it on there. Maybee he thought it would give more power? That limit of 7500rpm (again according to the catalogue) should only be reached by uprating the valve springs. I know older model Sporties don't survive long over 6000 rpm so best not go near that limiter. Not that you normally have to on a Sportster.

Hey SportyMark,
Your sig message reminds me of something a friend said many years ago. We were sailing on his 32 foot sloop, out in the middle of Lake Huron, in a fog, way offshore. It goes like this:
"Everyone HAS to be somewhere".

I decided to see which SE module I have, and it's a 32420-87B, off-road use only, with 8000rpm rev limiter...on a stock 883....

Thats ok ... If it had a rev limiter set at 10,000 rpm, it would not make any difference when you are going to shift the bike at 5,800 revs a anyway.
