I hate bulkey DOT helmets. Can anyone suggest a Daytona type helmat that may not meet DOT standards, but does offer some protection?

yo geek.... i can give you a little more info on those helmets that you posted. i bought one of them (only gloss black) and while it fits a little 'smaller' than the other dot helmet i bought with my bike, i would not recommend it enthusiastically. the straps are positioned a little weird so it feels like the chin strap is trying to go through your throat, and they are made of vinyl, not leather. i basically wear mine for local 'posing' :tour but for any kind of longer riding, i wear the mushroom. also, do not get the screw on face shield for that, the optics suck and it really screws with your field of vision. but if you are looking for something to wear locally, it isn't too bad, and it is dot rated.

I'm leaning toward the ACC carbon lids. They look very low profile while still being able to take a hit.

Thanks Skratch. I actually found them today for a buddy of mine. He just bought a 05 softail standard yesterday and he was looking for something for his 5 year old daughter to wear.

I will let him know.

I use the beanie and at 1 lb. 6 oz. and DOT approved it's very comfortable.

Here is a thread where you might find some useful info. And if you do a search I'm sure you'll come up with somemore threads. I know this topic has been discussed more than a few times.
