Sounds like a great idea. The XR 1200 BBQ racers over in Spain have enjoyed a great season. The bikes are speced and make around 95 rwhp and turn 7000 rpm. That should sound great and be good for around 140 mph on longer tracks...........

I really hope they don't do this. I really don't need another hobby. :doh ;)

That would be awesome!!

Dan, then don't look at any of the XR-1200 racer pictures, you'll be at the track for sure, they look really good with the race pipes and long shocks........

Should be an interesting class. The old 883 series bikes were dead slow but they put on a great show. These things should be faster and more reliable. Id love to put one together but I have a ton of money in my trackday S1 and it has not even run yet so i can not get too far ahead of myself.

Maru, I like you think the XR1200 class will be a faster version of the old 883 class. Great racing back then although slow like you said. I'm hoping they will open the Trans Atlantic class in AHRMA to these same XR 1200's........

I saw a candidate for AMA XR1200 Spec class at the AHRMA races yestersday, better suspension, 2-1 megaphone with very little baffeling, remaped fuel curve and opened up airbox = about 95 HP and ran good, handled as best it can with the frame and the geometry............

What lap times was he turning at Barber?

I don't know they only kept a running time for the entire race. I can tell you this: saturday I saw him run in sound of thunder and his main competition was a 998 Ducati that was completely stock save for suspension adjustments and I believe a fully faired triumph speed triple. Rick came in second quite a bit back. On Sunday I saw him race in BOTT F-2, He was running in 3rd about 5 seconds off second place which was way back from another Ducati 998 until the last lap when he diappeared and finished last, he must have run off the track because he came riding around at a slow pace and rode it back up to his pit.
Addition, just talked to Wes up in Milwaukee, Rick didn't wreck, he got blackflagged for leaking oil, but according to Wes, it wasn't leaking at all. Just a little smoke in the exhaust when he'd let off going into corners. Hell you know XL exhaust valves take a beating at 7000rpm...........

over in Europe you can get a version on the XR1200R with fully adjustable suspension
you can buy the kit here (forks and shocks)
I liked the Twin-sports 883 class, I would love to see and hear a big bore sporty booming down the back straight at Fontana.
I even know the best corners for knee dragging photos.:D
I would like to also see a 250 or 450 class, the 450's I wonder if they are those bikes that are based on dirtbike engines in a road racing frames I think they are bulit by Roland Sands' company.
I saw a couple at the AMA/DMG (puke) weekend in march here in Fontana.
they look like they would be fun to throw around turn 11.

well I don't want to make a long thread on my suggestions for re-doing the AMA classes, I can go over to speed.com and do that.
