2002 XL Custom Turn signal problem

I am new here but haven't had much problems with the bike I couldn't figure out. This one is stumping me and wouldn't mind some input from you folks.

I have have a 2002 1200 XL Custom. Bike does have side bags with the stand of / relocation kit. I had to replace both indicator lights yesterday, because the original installer put the wiring in so the tire would eat it. The wiring for left side was complete toasted and no power was making it to the turn signal. Right side was bad but still part way intact, light still worked. Well I am not sure but now seems like the module has some problems as well. If the bike is cold and you turn power on you get no turn signals or hazards. If you leave power on for a bit or ride you will gradually get signals back. Seems like right will start working first. Once working seems like it will stay that way till a long shut down but sometimes they goof and don't come on while riding. All harness connectors seem fine and clean.

Any ideas? At this point I am thinking the module got damaged.

Do you all know of a good aftermarket kit? HD stock module is going to run about $150.

I'd recheck all the wiring that was damaged, including some you "think" was/is ok.

It would take a lot more than some wire chafing to take out the turn signal module.

Have a buddy with a Sportster?
Try swapping and see if his lights go bad. Should be evident right away.
Too expensive a module to "just try".
I think the same TS module has the same on a Dyna also. Last time I checked, it was the same.

My wiring ('02 Sporty) popped out of the loom also and the tire wore through.
Fixed the wiring and replaced the fuse all all was fine.
