Not sure where the leak is "linkage area?": At the clutch cable? At the shifter shaft? ?

Would be a leaky oil seal. Not a big job to replace it yourself.

I had the same problem recently on my ironhead. The leak stopped after i re-arranged the forward controls on the shift side.

The shift lever had been installed at about 1:00 o'clock. When up-shifting, the rod was as much pushing back as it was clockwise putting pressure on the seal. I re-arranged things so the lever was at about 11:00, the rod was shorter, and the pedal in a better position. The leak stopped. Also, it shifts far easier now than before.
