I didn't get to go up on Friday like I wanted, but I met up with jgaitner Saturday morning. The roads around Austin were crawling with bikes of all types. Most seemed to be cruisers although there was a good representation of all bikes, Gold Wings, BMWs, sport bikes and custom jobs.
We did the "Canyon of Eagles" ride up to Lake Buchannon. It was a little overcast so the heat stayed away and it was a pleasant trip. We got back around 4 pm and toured the air conditioned buildings, but didn't see anything we couldn't do without. We missed the roller derby and boxing which was earlier in the day. It'd be nice if the rides and entertainment were a little more coordinated so you could do both and not have to choose one or the other. We were going to meet up with smorphine, but we keep playing phone tag and never made the hookup.
The concert started an hour late and then the wrong band played which wouldn't have been a big deal if they had made some kind of announcement about what was going on. The wait was made a little more tolerable by the free folding chairs they were handing out. Not the best, but waay better than sitting on the ground. The music was great once it started though and afterwards, I saw more bare breasts than I could count. I think there should be a rule that you must keep most of your clothes on if you are over 55 or 30 lbs or more overweight if you get my drift:D
BTW, the lead singer for the Guess Who said this was their first visit to South Texas--I guess he forgot about playing San Antonio two years ago. Oops, no he didn't because when that band calling themselves The Guess Who came to town, Burton Cummings was the lead singer and Randy Bachman the lead guitarist. Calling yourselves The Guess Who without those two is like the Rolling Stones touring without Mick Jagger. It just isn't real.
I remembered where I parked my bike, but that was in the daytime and there weren't 10-15 thousand people milling around and thousands of bikes going every whichway. Lets just say that I had to walk around a "little" before I could locate my ride home. The wife was not amused.
Traffic leaving the fairgrounds was absurd. Bikes all over the place and most were not paying any attention to traffic laws or safe riding. The traffic thinned out as we got farther from the site and I finally breathed a sigh of relief when the last light faded from view in my mirror.
We had a great time and are looking forward to next year. Maybe we'll try to stay on-site next time. How'd you guys make out?
