View Full Version : I wish I had my camera, or.....
Ralphthe3rd 5th June 2007, 02:20 Hey Guys, this past saturday I was at a Dealer(Susquehanna Valley H-D) Open House down in Harrisburg, Pa. And while I was walking the parking lot looking at the bikes, all of a sudden my jaw almost hit the pavement ! :wonderlan There in gleaming Orange and Black racing colors, was somebody recreation of an XR750 but was street legal ! I hung around by the bike as long as I could but the owner musta never saw me, and that a shame, as I really wanted to talk to him. I also wish I had my camera ! :doh The Bike was built from an Evo solid mount, and still had the belt drive setup. But everything else was XR ! The Tank looked to be an Actual XR750 racing tank and had the correct decals, the seat was...well one of the XR type seat/cowls units made of fiberglass, it had a trimmed down front fender(Pa. law req.), it had the high mount stacked supertrapps, its wire wheels were laced to lightweight aluminum rims, but I didn't notice if the rear was 18" or 19", although I saw that the front was 19". The bikes license tag was cool too, (but dang it- I forget exactly what it read) said something like XR750 or XR???
Anyway, does anyone know who owns this bike, which I assume is from the central pa. area ? I'm kicking myself for not having my camera or meeting the owner..... I gotta MEET this Guy !
~Ralph
chieftd 5th June 2007, 04:48 Ralph, I don't know who the guy is but I like his taste in bikes. :) I was just thinking of what to get put on my new tags in a couple of months. I'm leaning towards XR-883 but not sure. Would love to see the pics if you ever get any. Regards, chieftd

Todd31de 5th June 2007, 11:49 I saw one back about 10 years at Williams Grove Speedway when they had the motorcycle flat track races there. That would be the same neck of the woods.
black-n-blue sporty 5th June 2007, 12:18 I don't know the guys name but I have seen him there a few times. It is an older guy that rides it. I have seen him there on Thursday night a few times last year during their social rides they have on thursday nights.
Ralphthe3rd 5th June 2007, 16:08 Hey black-n-blue, thanks for the reply confirmation :) Well, that means I gotta go hang out there on thursday nites, although for me- it's a 50 mile(oneway) ride to get to SVHD, as I live up north in Juniata co.
So, since you've seen the bike too, it's kinda cool- isn't it !? I mean, he could have done more to make it more authentic, but it looks great, and still retains the no hassle of the belt drive. I really liked it... Actually thats the the ONLY thing I liked about the Open House- LOL !:D

black-n-blue sporty 5th June 2007, 16:22 I am planning on being there this thursday. The bike is really nice looking. I had checked it out a few times, and he did a real nice job doing it.
Ralphthe3rd 5th June 2007, 16:58 Black-n-blue, if the weather is clear, I'll make a plan to run down on thursday night. I'm not a HOG member there(I'm from the CV chapter), but I'd like the chance to meet other sporty riders, and maybe that guy with the Streetracker XL(ahem XR) :o
PS- back in the Day, I did buy my Buell from SVHD/Buell :frownthre

Kev M 6th June 2007, 12:56 One of you guys gotta get a pic and some details from this dude....
Ralphthe3rd 7th June 2007, 16:00 Oh hey- FYI...thursday nights are "social nite" from 5:30-7:30pm at Susquehanna Valley H-D(Dealership) in Harrisburg. Even though it's a 50 mile ride(oneway) for me to get there, I plan on attending tonight. So if any of you Central Pa'ers would like to come out to this "meet and greet"- I'd think it would be Cool to meet others from the Forum. And I'm Gonna be Bringing My Camera this time ;)
BTW- they Serve Hotdogs !
~Ralph
PS- I'll be riding my Orange '07 883R.
black-n-blue sporty 8th June 2007, 16:23 So were you there last night. So that was your Orange 883R. I was there last night with wife. If I make it next week maybe we can chat.
Ralphthe3rd 17th June 2007, 15:26 Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. But yes, I was there that week with my Orange 883R, I was the tall guy walking around in the Black and Orange leather jacket(sweating to death-LOL). And yes- I went back this past week as well, but took the car, as I thought it was going to be thunderstorms. I really wish I could have met and chatted with ya, as I didn't know anyone, and only one guy named Roger talked with me.
BTW- about that XL/XR750 Streetrtacker...read my following post.

Ralphthe3rd 17th June 2007, 15:45 But I didn't get them at the Social Night at SVHD. But Yesterday, was the Big Birthday Bash in Mechanicsburg, at Appalachian harley-davidson, celebrating their 6th birthday I believe. And the weather was perfect and turnout was tremendous. Anyway, I got there by 10:15 am, and there were already about 100 bikes in the parking lot....so I started checking them out, by the time I made it back all the way to where I was parked, there was already another two rows(100 more) bikes to check out, and low and behold, there she was ! that pseudo XR750 ! Of course it was already parked, and the owner was no where to be found, so I checked it fully out anyway. It started out as a '99 XL1200, and looks like the guy ordered everything from Trak-Tec. Oh yeah, I did take LOTS of pix, but yer gonna have to be patient, coz it's gonna be a while before I get the pix uploaded online.
The parts this guy added were the alum laced wheels-19" front, 18" rear, the fiberglass seat/tail section, the Alum(?) XR fuel tank, Flattrack wide handlebars, the Supertrapp high pipes and alot of smaller bits like turn signals etc. It still used the OEM carb, but had an large open "Round" air filter attached. All the details will show in my photos. But now for the sad part, I never found the owner :( I couldn't stand around the bike all day, and while I was waiting to get on one of the Demo bikes to ride, wouldn't ya know it, there goes the Guy and his Streetracker- leaving the parking lot ! The guy looked like an older gent- maybe 60'ish ? He was wearing his matching Orange Half helmet, and seemed to be riding with another guy on a later model sporty with fancy paint.
Oh yeah, I finally noted the license plate# for his bike, it read - "HAR XR".
As soon as I can, I'll upload the pix of this sweet streetracker.

chieftd 17th June 2007, 21:26 Ralph, I'm anxious to see the pics! :) Most of my parts are from Trak-Tek too. Thanks in advance for the pics. Tim
Kev M 18th June 2007, 14:01 Cool...can't wait...
Ralphthe3rd 18th June 2007, 22:24 Also though, I'd like to appologize for the washed out color in these pix, as my camera was a really cheap pocket model, and for some reason, the orange color(which was true H-D Orange) didn't come out correct?

This bike really looked nice in person, but also looked like it still had a ways to go- if you wanted to keep going with few more mods... like chain drive etc.
Though I'd really like to Talk to it's owner sometime- Sheesh !

Ralphthe3rd 19th June 2007, 02:19 The heavy downloading-Pix viewing, exceeded my Geocities(host) hourly transfer rate, so I reloaded them to another site in a smaller size, so hopefully you'll will be able to view them ? Enjoy !

Note- I still think this bike has room for further mods, although it's pretty sweet as it is, and the belt drive is alot less hassle than a chain.
chrishajer 19th June 2007, 03:10 No rearsets? Seems wrong. Cool bike though.

doxbike 19th June 2007, 03:25 Ralph,
I can see the geocity links if I try to reply by quoting your post, but no links are visible in you post per se.???
Kev M 19th June 2007, 14:32 Yeah, needs rearsets, but very cool....
and I wouldn't do the spokes, no matter how true-to-tradition it is...
sportypete 19th June 2007, 14:54 Thanks for posting the pics - Pete
Todd31de 19th June 2007, 14:56 Actually now adays you see both mags and spokes. It seems on miles that they have a mag on the front and spokes on the back. My guess is that is has to do with inertia.
Hammertoe 19th June 2007, 23:51 Good looking bike
Ralphthe3rd 21st June 2007, 04:46 And he's a pretty cool guy. I have to explain first, that I went to a Bike Nite event at a Twin Kiss, in the small town of Shermans Dale in Perry county. I first saw the other guys (custom painted)bike that was with him before, and found it's owner- Dave, he's a really nice guy too, and told me all about Gene(i think that was his name?). Anyway, Gene is a 58 year old fellow, that actually looks 45 ! He build this Streetracker about 2 years ago, and this was when he started riding bikes again, as he told me he previously stopped riding back around 1980 !? I must also add that Gene is a HUGE flattrack fan from back in the Glory days, and although he never raced himself, he did attend as many GNC events as possible up until a few years back-when the new crop of racers came onto the scene and the older ones were retiring :(
Gene's bike was built entirely by himself- and he even laced the Wheels himself too ! And YES- thats an actual aluminum XR750 fuel tank that he adapted to fit., so is the seat/tail. BTW- he got his parts from Stortz- not TrakTek. His 1200 motor is basically stock, except for some carb work, and Dyna ignition, nothing else has been done internally.
I mentioned THIS Forum to Gene and Dave, but neither had heard of it(maybe not net surfers?), but I think that Gene may try and look us up :) He's a really cool guy ,and loves talking about Flattrack racing, XR's, XL's and just bike stuff. And hopefully, I'll be seeing alot more of Gene and Dave....although Dave has this thing for Chrome, and I'm Mr. Anti-Chrome :laugh But Gene has a thing for Orange, and thats my kinda guy :tour

Ralphthe3rd 21st June 2007, 15:03 I'm just not too sure he is a internet kinda guy, but I'll pass it along. BTW- I used to frequent that site alot too, but haven't for awhile. And my ID/handle is the same as here.

Ralphthe3rd 22nd June 2007, 05:31 I just wanted to say, that tonight- I again met Gene and Dave, but this time at Susquehanna H-D's Thursday night social gathering. (BTW- I rode my Buell there tonight).
One thing new I wanted to add about Gene's streetracker is, the footpeg mounts. I know someone mentioned they weren't rearsets, but if you look really close at the photos, you'll notice they ain't stock mounts either. They were custom made by Gene himself, as his is a machinest. I'm not sure if the are billet aluminum, but they were machined from aluminum, and are actually slightly forward of the stock mounts, and Gene explained the two reasons why he wanted them there. First off, he has small feet and could reach the shifter better, second- he wanted quick/easy access to the derby cover, without having to remove the peg mount.
Anyway, it took me three weeks, but it was worth the wait and search, for this guy and his XR ;)
Ralphthe3rd 26th June 2007, 04:24 He emailed me today, to tell me he finally Joined this forum, and that his ID here is : har-xr1200
And he also informed me, that he just got a 55 tooth sprocket for the rear, as he wants to experiment with taller gearing. BTW- Gene is from Middletown, Pa.
