View Full Version : I need your help to raise money for charity (two day mooch fest)

Are you all charitied out yet? I almost am. At the XLF, we've raised money for Riley Hospital for Children (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=53272). You donated money to free the batbike (http://www.xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=62364). We donated part of the proceeds from the 2007 XLF calendar (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=34322) to charity. Heck, just searching the forum for charity (http://www.google.com/custom?domains=XLFORUM.NET&q=charity&sa=Google+Search&sitesearch=XLFORUM.NET&client=pub-2703004910810092&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&safe=active&cof=GALT%3A%23FF6600%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23FF6600%3B VLC%3A336633%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3A000000%3BLBGC%3 AFF6600%3BALC%3AFF6600%3BLC%3AFF6600%3BT%3AFFFFFF% 3BGFNT%3AFF6633%3BGIMP%3AFF6633%3BLH%3A41%3BLW%3A1 50%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fxlforum.net%2Fvbportal%2Ffor ums%2Fimages%2Fmisc%2Fnavbits_start.gif%3BS%3Ahttp %3A%2F%2F%3BFORID%3A1%3B&hl=en) brings up over 300 results. We're a charitable bunch.

Locally, I've donated to the Relay for Life, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Heart Association, Boy Scouts of America and who knows what else. I think charity is important, so I give.

Now, though, I'm in the position of having to ask for donations myself.

My wife has a brain tumor. She had surgery to remove 90% of it in December 2003, and it's under control, non-malignant and not growing any more. The hospital that performed the surgery, CINN (http://www.cinn.org/) (The Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch) is having a charity walk this weekend, June 10th. The walk is called The Stride to Save Lives and is put on by the CINN Foundation (http://www.cinnfoundation.org/). My wife's goal is to raise the most money ever for the CINN Foundation, and I want to help her.

Here's where you come in. Visit my wife's site http://www.ethelsminions.com/. Learn more about her story. If you're inclined, you can make a donation on that site. If you choose to donate, PM me or post here so I can match up the member name with the email address.

Now, for the good part. Anyone who makes a donation will be entered into a drawing to win one of three Fix My Hog DVD Sportster Editions (http://fixmyhog.com/Sportster-Edition-My-Service-Sheet-Kit-p-669.html) including My Service Sheet. The DVDs were donated by Dennis at Fix My Hog, and the My Service Sheet memberships are being donated by my partner and I (the two of us founded ServiceSheet, Inc. which is the company behind My Service Sheet.) (As an aside, if you purchase a DVD bundle with My Service Sheet at Fix My Hog, a dollar goes to charity there too. There's no avoiding charity :))

In addition to the DVD giveaways, I am prepared to give some other stuff away too. I'll be giving away five items (you get to choose which item, if you win) from our cafepress store (http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/servicesheet1/) with our lovely spokesmodel Sammy. (there's also a super-secret topless servicesheet store too, if you are so inclined.)

http://images.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/product/29968849_150x150_Back.jpghttp://images.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/product/29968843v1_150x150_Front.jpghttp://images.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/product/29968844_150x150_Front_Color-BlackWhite.jpghttp://images.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/product/43094575_150x150_Front_Color-BlackWhite.jpghttp://images.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/product/29968847_150x150_Front.jpg
(http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/servicesheet1/)
So, that's eight giveaways in all. Of course, if there are fewer than eight donations, everyone will get something. If there are more than eight donations, I'll pony up some more stuff. I have a Basic Skins HD woman's leather riding jacket here, size small, worn like 3 times. I can give that away. I'll help you perform the maintenance on your bike, at my house if you want. I'll babysit your kids. In fact, everyone who donates will get SOMETHING, even if they don't win one of the prizes. I have the t-shirts and the hot sauce pictured here too (not actual size.) You can choose one of these if you like.

http://www.chrishajer.com/bike/XLF/ss-stuff.jpg (http://www.servicesauce.com/)

So, whaddya say, can you spare a few bucks for a charity close to my heart?

http://www.ethelsminions.com/

Thank you sincerely,
Chris Hajer

p.s. the good news: I won't ask again after Sunday June 10th - that's the date of the walk. I'll just be sharing my thanks after that.

p.p.s. last year, we had a bunch of bikes ride down too. This is a small event, local only, so I think we had about 10 bikes ride down to Montrose Harbor. Since my bike is broken now, I didn't organize a ride this year. Besides, last year one of the bikes got knocked over by a car in the parking lot, so I think a lot of people are gun shy on riding down this year. You're welcome to join us, riding or driving, then walking.

Hey, now you're talking :) I'll be hitting 10K this summer and could use a hand, and I'm right down the road....

chrishajer

It's in the prize closet, for sure. You're close by (I'm right by Brookfield Zoo), just back from the IN/KY run, you need maintenance man! But please note, I don't wash bikes, not mine or anyone else's. I'm just no good at it. Maintenance though, I can help ya there. We'll order some pizza, grab some beverages and knock the 10K out.

Oh wait - you have a 2005 - I don't know nothing about no 2004+ models. The motor isn't even bolted to the FRAME!

I just checked the paypal notifications for my wife and all I can say is

WOW

You guys are really generous. I can't remember if I posted this earlier, but my wife doesn't know about this. She was kinda bummed that she didn't quite reach her goal, so I figured I would ask around and see who wanted to help. I am touched by your generosity. I will post names when I figure out who everyone is (PM me if you prefer not to be mentioned). If you would like to PM me with your email, then I can match the email address with the member name here. Then we can get to the prizes too.

Thanks,

The 1986 cases are not substantially different from any other Evo 4-speed. I think the problem with the seals is from the Ram Flo manifold. Check your PM.

Thanks again for everyone's support. You can check my wife's page to see all the current donors.

Hey Chris, did you hit your goal?

chrishajer
10th June 2007, 22:38
Thank you everyone. We got back a little bit ago from the walk.

The weather was perfect today. We had about 30 walkers in our group and they had a record number of walkers this year: 600 (twice last year). But, the two-mile walk is not the point. It's not like it's hard or anything. It's just a nice day, down by the lake at Montrose Harbor, right in the middle of a bird sanctuary (we saw hawks, terns, orioles and swallows today), to raise money for a good local cause, enjoy the food and enjoy the music. We did all of that.

Last year, the CINN foundation raised around $24,000 at this walk. This year, they almost doubled that, to $45,000. And of that, my wife's team, including everyone who donated here was the

number one fundraising
team at the walk!

The top three teams each raised around $4000. We raised $4090, the second place team raised $4080 and the third place team raised $4020. So, to everyone who donated anything at all, my hat is off to you. Your donation made the difference. I thank each and every one of you, and my wife thanks you too. It really meant a lot that everyone here, most of whom don't know me or my wife, stepped up and pulled together for this cause. The cause means a lot to us, and we hope to be able to continue to raise money for the foundation and the hospital that saved my wife's life.

Thanks once again to everyone. I will toss all the names into the hat in a little bit here and see who won the DVD prizes and the cafepress stuff.

Thank You,
Chris Hajer

Hi Everyone-

Today, Chris, I and the kids, along with 24 friends and relatives
participate in CINN 3rd Annual Stride to Save Life walk. It was a
glorious morning to be walking downtown by Lake Michigan. 600 people
walked this year, about twice as many as last year and 6 times as many as
the first year. So it seems to be catching on!

We all got t-shirts and goody bags for participating. This year it was
cool since they gave survivors a different color shirt than everyone
else. So, while the majority of people wore a white shirt with purple
lettering, my fellow survivors and I got to wear this beautiful deep
purple shirt (I was calling it eggplant).

All the kids there had fun just playing together but also getting
balloons or getting their faces painted. Jackson was very pleased with
the balloon artist and said "he's better than last year's guy," high
praise from a seven year old.

After a lunch of grilled burgers and dogs, chips and soda, they
announced the third, second, and first place teams/individuals that
raised the most money for brain tumor research. Though Chris & I didn't
meet our personal goal, our team did earn the distinction of first place!
We raised a total of $4090 at the time of the walk (we are actually still
receiving money from other generous people so the final total may be more).

I was absolutely thrilled! I can't thank all of you enough for making
this happen. We were only able to do that well because of your generous
and caring support. So from the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU!

I hope you realize that this just spurs Chris and myself on. Now for
next year we have even bigger goals!

Thank you again to everyone! I am certain many individuals will
benefit from your generosity through the research you have funded. You
have made a difference!
