Well, it looks like I will finally get to upgrade my 1200R after 6 months of complaining to my wife. :cry1

I will be getting a Velocity Twin Air cleaner plus pipes and all of the jetting will be done by the dealer along with a dyno tune. Now I gotta decide on some pipes, First off, I wanted the staggered look like the stock pipes have. But I want the sound to be almost obnoxious. Now I am second guessiing my desire for looks for performance and thinking of the Samson 2-1 pipe with baffles removed.

So....Here are my choices....

V&H Big Shots - Not big on the look but heard they sound great!
Samson 2 1/4 staggered- Looks great but never heard anything about them.
Samson 2-1 Collector Header - Dont mind the look so bad but wonder about sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Be warned if you use any of the unbaffled systems, on a long run you will need earplugs!

A couple of local guys have the V&H Long Shots & Short Shots on their Softails and they look and sound nice.

I decided to keep with the SE ones because I live in a built up area and the police here are pretty sharp on loud pipes.

Have a friend with V&H ShortShots on and they sound pretty mean. Looks good on his WG. Just an opinion...good luck on finding something to suit you!

My dad has the V&H's on his Fat Boy, and they sound awesome. They really crack.

BUB Rihnhart pipes (not the jughuggers). I have never been able to hear them, but they're supposed to sounds very unique, and be pretty loud. The have a stepped header design, baffles, and full heatshields. As far as performance goes, they supposed to be as good as it gets. Only downside is they retial for around $750. You can get them on eBay for around $550 regularly. I may be going with these, as I'm also considering a new 2:1 that supertrapp is making now, also about $550.

A 2-1 w/out a baffle can be an awfully loud pipe. Also if you want the baddest sounding pipes w/out baffles try Bassani Pro Streets. They'll knock over a Sherman tank.

Ya, a man after my own heart. I will be looking for that for my Iron. But i will be wanting slip-ons so i can keep the look of the original headers/crossover/shields that i found on e-Bay. Any recomendations for badass slip-ons?

Cycle Shack slash cut slip ons are a good option. You can run baffles if you need, or pull them out and have a very loud system. If you take the time to clearance the baffle, it will slide in and out with ease.

But please don't ride beside me.

I have V&H straightshots and they sound awesome. My father in law had some Thunder Monster baffles sitting around so to experiment, I put them in my V&Hs. WAYYY TOOO LOUD! And I like loud :yikes . If you are looking for loud, pick out the pipes you like and stick Thunder Monsters in there. I ended up putting the V&H baffles back in.

Thanks for the info fellas.

I know a guy here at work that put the Bassannis on his 04 XL and you are right they do sound good. The only bad thing is I don't like the side by side design. To easy for us short guys to burn the crap out of our legs. :o

I think I will stick with the V&H Straight Shots for now. But who knows how many times I will change my mind between now and Feb.

Whichever way I choose, I will let you all know the goods and bads of whichever pipe I get.
