Can anyone tell me where I can find a quality reflective mesh jacket. I am in the military and am required to wear long sleeves and a roadguard vest. With my uniform this can be a pain. We are now authorized to wear jackets with our uniform (finally some sense that safety takes priority over the look of the unifrom while riding a motorcycle) I live in Okinawa Japan and it is very hot so I don't want to wear my leather jacket, it is very hot even with vents. I would like to find a mesh jacket that has vents and in the road guard orange or yellow colors. Then I could wear one item,be safe, and comfortable. I have seen many jackets just not in the colors mentioned above.

Thanks in advance.

If someone makes these they can make a ton of money off military riders.

You might check out Joe Rocket. I believe that they make some lightweight riding jackets.

Like Doc said, Joe Rocket is a good bet. I think HD makes some jackets with reflective tape but not in blaze orange.

Check out crotch rocket stuff more than HD stuff. HD stuff is almost always leather and almost always black. And hit Ebay, there's tons of stuff on there.

Here's a couple links that might help. A buddy of mine has bought from the first one with good results, for whatever that is worth.

I have a Joe Rocket that is mesh. It's a nice jacket. Paid 200 new for it. It has armor on the back and shoulders, and it is leather in those places. For summer riding it is perfect. It gets into the 100's here and I'll still wear it. The black leather keeps me from looking funny riding a harley with an armored jacket. It also has white reflected strip that goes from the sleaves to around the torso.

Here at pendleton I thro a latge long sleave t shirt and gay orange vest on when I am in uniform. When I am in Civilian clothes I wear the vest to the front gate, stop, put the vest in my fork pouch, and there it stays until I come back on base. OK, it is breaking the rules..............if thats the only rule I break I think I will be OK! You buy your bike over there or shi[p it? That overseas vehicle plan is a pretty good deal.

I've got the icon vest and I love it! I wear it any time I ride because of its coolness and versatility. It has a couple of pockets, an ID card holder located on the left breast area w/velcro (like the pilot's name tag). In the back is a fairly good sized pouch I use to put my registration papers in. The base here has been gettin tight on the regs to the point of stupidity. Threre must by a motorcycle hater runnin the show, ya know how that works.
I reckon you could find some like material and have some sleeves sewn into the vest. Usually there is a myriad of embroidary shops around most bases that will do almost anything ya want.

VIT,

I bought my 04 1200 XLC here. I got 900 dollars off MSRP because the 05s had come out. Here on Oki it is very small place and there have been a few deaths recently. We had a mandatory safety stand down and they checked all liscensed drivers to make sure they showed up. We have to show ID's on and sometimes off base as well as lisecnse's. So I still have to wear the vest. Since I have to wear the thing anyways I figured why not kill two birds with one stone and get a mesh jacket in the road guard vest color. When I stopped I could just take it off and when I rode it wouldn't be so hot.

The AF and the Navy won't allow any new rider never previously licsenced, with proof ride anything bigger than a 600 here. I think the Marine Corps is going to follow suit soon.

Squad fitters (motor cop shop)has a nicer looking reflective vest. It's black mesh, with reflective red/white/blue stripes on the front and back, and a reflective American flag on the back.

Out here at Nellis a lot of us have gone to the Icon vest. It runs about $50, but it's a better looking vest than anything else I've seen that meets the regs. i got mine from ridegear.com.

Chris, if you check the actual regs, during the daytime we only need contrasting color, not reflective. Reflective is needed for night riding on the base though.

The DoD guidance is "brightly colored upper outer garment" during the day and reflective at night. However, base COs can and do modify it at whim; bottom line, day or night, you're covered wearing the Icon vest. It's comfortable, the pockets and ID holder are very handy and you look less like a road guard. Well worth the $50.

PACAF sups require the wear of a hunter orange or lime green reflective vest at all times if you're active duty and on base only if you're civilian, doesn't matter if it's day or night. No other colors are accepted
