Used Bike prices in your area

Hey Guys and Gals,

I bought my bike used 2 months ago. Since that time I've been watching the local classified ads to see if I got a deal or not.

Right now there are lots of bikes listed but not very many are selling.

The few that are selling are in this price range

Sportster 1200 $3800 - $5000 depending on yr, miles, condition
Sportster 883 $2500 - $4000 depending ""
Dynas, Softtrails $7000 - $10,000 but very few selling

Most the bikes selling in this price range are 5-10 years old.

There are tons of newer 1 - 5 year old Sporties listed at $7000 - $9000 that no one's even looking at.

So two questions to those in the know,

1. How does this pricing compare to a few years ago before the economy took a dump.

2. What do you expect the prices to be this spring time given the current economy?

those numbers seem to match what I have seen here. Now, this is totally me, but the last thing I would do is to search pricing AFTER I bought. Nothing is worse than finding a better deal AFTER you've bought.

The prices on bikes here on craigs list are short sell low but very few are selling.
great deals if you have the cash:banana / hard times if you have payments and cant make em:(

i dont think the economy taking a crap did much.heres why i say that.
in 03 my brother purchased his new 1200custom anniversary edition .list was $16,999.00 in 03.fast forward to 07 i purchase my nightster $12,400.00
thats before the economy tanked .in early 08 the nightster was down to $11,7000.00 and today its back up to $12,400.00 thats for new bikes of coarse.any used bikes older than5 years if in good condition will hover at the 4-5g area with special editions fetching a little more .just for comparison with by bro's bike the new custom is $11,800.00
id say they are lucky compared to the big 3 car manufactures which have had to cut prices on a huge scale just to get people in the doors.

Prices in the bay have gone up since the end of summer, go figure.

I remember looking at a few triumphs and evo sportsters (even a 1200) in the 2-3K range at the beginning (a couple irons in the 1-2K range, but those were beat to death), but now any sportster under 3K looks like a bit of a gamble. Theres a few ironheads in what used to be the older evo price range, but most are in the 4-5K range, while evos are going for typically a grand more.

and here i thought winter would mean cheap sportys :(

IMO used Harley prices maxed out between 2003 and 2004. Down hill ever since.

WIth the dealers having a Sporty trade in program for new V twins, caused them to be sitting on a lot of Sporties. They are trying to get them off their books and having to sell them at a loss. Individuals are having to come in even lower than dealers because they don't get the traffic.
