French XLCR replica. Nicely done. I especially like the exhaust.

Hi.

Yes, It is a very cool bike, but a bit pricy i think.
The Pipe looks to be the 2002 883r 2 into 1 in black powder coat, but I could be wrong.

It would be cool to ride though, too bad Harley will never do one of these again, well, as long as they have Buell they won't.

Nice looking rendition of the orginal XLCR. But you can do this yourself and save a lot of money.

Check out some of the 'Cafe Racer' body part suppliers on the web. I believe all or most the parts shown are available individually. Other then the rear sets and the bodyworks, you basically have a blacked-out stock EVO Sporty with chrome or stainless hardware.

Most critical observation...REAR WHEEL SHOULD BE AN 18"...the 16" is out of place on this bike. Even tho the bike is a new rendition of the old....the early 70's/late 60's style of the Cafe Racer calls for the use of an 18" rear wheel....mag or spoked. Also keep the tires narrow. IMO these are absolute requirements for a vintage Cafe Racer....restored or new rendition....the basics make it look "right'. :smoke

Personally, I think these bikes are really neat (the originals), but still a little funny looking to me...

I wish I had bought one when I had a chance. It was used but in nice shape and a good
price. Live and learn.

I really dig the look of that bike (the original XLCR). If I ever buy a new sporty I might think of converting my current one to that style.

The kits are very pricey. I emailed them and asked for a quotation just for the rear fender and fairings ....
They only sell the kit was their response ... not interested in selling the parts!!!! WTF! Frenchmen! :frownthre :frownthre :frownthre

Nice looking bike would be even better looking with a sprocket and chain.

The bikes are costly but the kits arent too badly priced .

I really really like this conversion..How much for the kit? And can the kit be used on the new rubber mounted sportsters? How much for a bike from them?

gordy

doesnt say if the kit will fit a rubber sporty and it also says you cant buy the kit from the site only their retailers! odd

The bikes are priced at the following :

900cc Euro 15,920 ($20125)
1200cc Euro 19450 ($24580)

Nice looking bike but the price is a bit steep :frownthre

wEll brother,
Harley needs to come up w/ something special...not every one can afford a street rod. Take a look what Triumph has done to the Bonnivlle Thruxten.

Has most all of the fiberglass for converting the sportster over to an XLCR.
Anyone have experience doing this? I'm still kicking around the idea of either an XLCR or XRTT styled cafe racer.
Read the rumor about the V-rod engined Sportster, sounds way too cool of an idea for H.D. to come out with, didn't seem to do a very imaginative
883R the second time!

Is the XLCR what Michael Douglas was riding in Black Rain?

Where are the sites that sell aftermarket cafe parts? I have a 79 ironhead that needs rebuilding anyway, and am seriously considering a cafe replica. Any help would be appreciated.

Who knows what the price converts to in US dollars?

jon686

I did and exchange rate calculator and came up with about $4700 US. Pretty pricey, especially considering that doesn't include the brakes, gauges, or exhaust. Probably not in my future, but the idea is still cool.

MecaTwin is WONDERFUL but just too expensive for me.

If I want to convert a stock XL ... the most important parts would be:
1) Fairing
2) Tank
3) Seat

I saw the Airtech conversion pieces and they don't look as good as the MecaTwin stuff. MecaTwin sells complete sets only, and that's not so good as its VERY expensive!

Any idea where to get fairing, tank & seat? Storz makes a XLCR style seat but the seat doesn't have the buttoned down look like the original.

Nor do I think it will accept the passenger pillon like the Mecatwin seat. I wonder if the Aerotech one will?

NOS Cafe Racer tanks and fenders pop up on E-bay, although I haven't seen any for a while. If you're going the whole route, I've never seen a set of Siamese exhaust for a Evo sportster. But most Cafe Racer replicas usually do away with that anyway.

I found out that Sundance in Japan (google it cos I cannot post URL, and check out the XRCR gallery) make a handmade aluminium Cafe Racer type tank for 250,000 Yen, and have a high grade composite Cafe Racer style seat for about 60,000 Yen.

GOOD STUFF!! Just add the fairing, blackenise the whole thing and you've got a great bike! Siamese exhaust isn't a big deal for me. Any good 2-into-1 will do. Form over function. For wheels stock alloys powdercoated black sound good.

Got the xlcr rear fairing. It's good. I like it. Sturdy. Don't know if it would properly support a rider on a pinion pad though. Also don't know how easy or difficult it would be to mount on an '04. But that's been discussed in another thread.

Ultimately though, i think the fairing is pretty awesome.
