Okay, so I'm done with Stage I mods on my 05' 883C. Here's my question, would I benefit from changing my stock ignition module with the SE module? What exactly is the advantage of having the rev limit raised to 6800? Short of a 1200 conversion what is there to do at this point? Experts please chime in, thanks.

In your motor ... none whatsoever

Nada.

Why do you want to over rev a stock motor ??
Hint: Save your money for the 883-1200 upgrade.

Good question, how about on a 05 stage 1 1200? If so, the regular screaming eagle module or the race one or the twin tec? I have no plans of cams ect.

Stage one 883 with stock cams, you would be flogging a dead horse at anything over 6000 rpms tops. Even on a stage one 1200, the increased rev limiter would not be a selling point.

Convert with 10:1 compression or more and a higher revving cam, and the gains in performance would be beneficial, but still the rev limiter would not be a selling point. Add headwork and now you are going to want to get some use out of the upper rpm range and yes at that point a better ignition would be money well spent. IMO, I still would not buy the SE one and instead get a Twin Tec.

I dunno guys.
I've got a '04 883XL/C (taxes paid) & with a little help from a Twin-tec TC88A & Ron my bike is running better than ever. Maybe the SE module is different, I don't know, but my rev limiter is set to 6800 and I assure you I get from 0 to 100 a few seconds quicker with the TC88A(custom MAP) than I did with my stock iggie, no doubt whatsoever. I had planned a conversion before even getting the TC88A, so as to get familiarized with it. I look forward to the added benefits with the added horsies, but I'm very happy with the results so far. I used to always bang the rev lim. with the stock but very rarely hit'er now. I say get a TC88A.:tour

Peace,

Darrin

Fealingood, if you want one, I've got one that I'll sell. It works with the '04-'05, but not '06. So, send me a message, if you're interested.

It's an SE Race Ignition, part number 31759-04.

Did they change something from '05 to '06 on the ignition?

Nothing really changed on the ignition, Shu, other than speed calibration. It's the helical gearing; the final output gear went from 40 teeth, to 48 teeth. So, the VSS sends 20% more pulses, at any given speed. An '04-'05 ignition will send a speed reading to the speedometer that is 20% too fast.

Ahhhhhhh, great information. Thanks. I was trying to figure out why they would switch the ignition curves or whatnot after only two years...Now I understand whyt he '06 ignition is different than the '05 and '04.
