I have a HD tach on my '06 custom.
Wired with the HD wiring harness.

If I were to remove it, would the same wires that power the HD tach tie into the Speedway?
In other words, would I need to splice into the wires like the instructions show?

I like the HD tach, it's just in a real sucky place on a new Custom. :frownthre

I believe the wires from the harness would work, but you would probably need to cut off the connector. If it were me, I would remove the harness, sell the tach and harness. Buy the microTach+ and splice it in.

If you still want to use the harness, shoot me a picture or if there is wiring diagram I can check it to make sure.

Thanks for the interest.

Justin,
The threes wires have ring terminals on their ends, which go over a threaded post on the back of the HD tach.

Here are the 4 pages of the HD installation:

Merc, I haven't decided where I'd put Justin's tach yet.
I might just glue it dead center of the speedo... :)

Thanks for posting these. It helped me understand alot about how Harley is doing their Tach.

You won't need this harness, or converter box or anything. The microTach for 2004+ bikes takes the digital signal directly. It would be best to just splice into the Speedo wire harness as my installation suggests. Alternatively you could add the DT-04 connector and plug into the diagnostic port.

If you are concerned about removing the splicing that is inplace already with the Harley Tach. You could cut the wires 3,4,5 on Fig2 from the harness 1/2 way between end and rest of harness and butt connect them to the microTach+ wires.

Please let me know if you have any other questions,

Justin
