I just installed the Micro Tach. It was pretty easy. Did not use suitcase connectors. Used bullet connectors instead. Hardest part was cutting through the wires, not physically hard, just did not want to screw-up.
I have a couple of questions.
I never had a motorcycle with a tach before, just shifted by feel. Looked in the service manual and could not find the RPM shift points for each gear. Searched the posts and could not come up with the answer.
At what RPM do I shift?
What RPM is bogging the engine?
What RPM will make my Sportster most happy? :laugh
Thanks in advance

Upshift speeds
1st to 2nd 15 mph
2nd to 3rd 25 mph
3rd to 4th 35 mph
4th to 5th 45 mph
Downshift speeds
5th to 4th 40 mph
4th to 3rd 30 mph
3rd to 2nd 20mph
2nd to 1st 10 mph
This is from the 2005 model year HD manual.
You can work out from the tach what this equates to.
Let us know what the upshift and downshift rpm equates to.

Let me rephrase the question:
What RPM is redline?

Let me rephrase the question:
What RPM is redline?
This is a totally different question not hinted about in the original question at all!!!
"At what RPM do I shift?
What RPM is bogging the engine?
What RPM will make my Sportster most happy?
Thanks in advance
Karl"
Are you sure this is what you want.
If you give it full throttle the red line is when it hits the limiter. You have a tach you only need do it once.
If you want help here please think about the question first.
