hi, to whomever may read this. i posted this in another forum, but then found this one that would perhaps yield a better answer.

on my '73 chopper/bobber, the previous owner had some too long for the look i'm going for 6" over forks on it, so i took the spacers out and the fork is bottomed, and now the bike is level again, and has just the right stance i'm looking for, so without actually BUYING a new pair of tubes, or secondhand forks, i would like to know if it is possible to just cut them down?

thx, -paul

I thought Forking by Frank in Evanston Illinois could do that. They manufacture their own tubes, but I thought they could cut yours down and rethread them. If not, maybe you can get a set from them at a good price.

If they can help or not, post back here for others to stumble on this.

A local machine shop should be able to help out but really, the price of a used set should not be much more. Not sure how much you want to lower the front end, so how about loosening the tree clamps and sliding the tubes up a few inches.....:geek:geek:geek

You can't slide them up on 1987 and earlier since the top of the tube is tapered to fit into the top tree. Can't go up at all.

How about a swap? I got a set of stockers.
