What is shallow staging and deep staging? and what is a plus/minus of each. why would one want to change where they start from?

I know this might be too many questions but I think they are about the same and I hope someone could explain then in one answer. maybe not but no answers without asking questions.

Roll out times are different for bikes, but you get the idea....

Shallow is just lighting your stage lights and staying there. Deep is going all the way in till you are almost out of the first light. Danger of shallow is you might roll back out of stage, this is a red light,(bad). Danger of deep is you are very close to red light if you move forward early.(bad).
I used to stage shallow. Advantage is I could get rolling before the green without red lighting and get a minor jump on the other guy. Takes much practice. I have seen video of my shallow stage vs a deep stage where reaction time and 60 ft was the same. I had damn near a tire out in front in a big hurry. The length of a tire is a huge advantage in an evenly matched race.
The difference was my reaction time already had me moving a few inches at the start light, his reaction time started as soon as he moved.
