Hi folks,
Just bought my first shorty helmet with some cool graphics. I've been wearing an open face 3/4 Shoei RJ-AIR for about 3 years now and before that, I always wore a full face. Now that I've got the shorty helmet, there's some issues.
It's NOT a "novelty" helmet. It's pretty comfortable especially on hot days and is DOT rated but....
I've noticed excessive wind noise which I think is coming from the narrow space between the side straps and my ears. It's beyond irritating! :yikes Nothing but wind, wind, wind! :cry1 Sounds like someone's blowing compressed are in my ears. I can't even hear the motor when tooling around at speeds above 30MPH. I tried earplugs and it fixed the wind issue but created another one due to lack hardly hearing almost anything!!! (too dangerous) Is this just how shorty helmets are??? Maybe I'm just too used to the open face 3/4...
Anybody else feel the same way. :tour
Thanks

I think that's what it is. You are used to the 3/4...full.

I always ride with a 1/2 and I don't find the noise excessive at all except maybe on long trips on the interstate. Then I use plugs which cut the "white" noise but leave the important noises...autos, trucks, sirens, horns.

I also use a windshield all the time. I found without it for the riding I do, just too much push for me.

Tnrider, you have the bobber right??? Then maybe a w/s not the answer you are looking for.

Only time the noise is bad is on long highway trips. I have not used earplugs yet, I just kinda suck it up. I think either your used to it or your not. Since I put apes on the w/s looks very out of place so I wont be using it anymore.........might have to try the earplug thing for the long trips.

i had the same problem when i purchased my half helmet. i Bought one that has a removeable storm flap on it. it's worse with the storm flap on. the storm flap acts kinda like a spoiler directing the wind directly into your ears. I just sucked it up for a little bit and got used to it. You may want to get some ear plugs that won't block every noise but will cut down the wind for the long rides because all the noise does tire you out faster.

You will get used to the noise, It doesnt bother me at all. When I ride on the freeway is the only time the noise get to me and thats after a long time.

I found that the wind noise is loud as well. What I do is just slightly turn my head to one side or the other and it cuts it down big time.

Best way to solve wind noise is to change your pipes :tour

Well...after reviewing these articles, I may start wearing earplugs a little more often...

you're right ...the wind noise is loud...I keep the soft "winter"(LOL) earflap on the helmet, it is quieter for me.

I find it hard to ride on the highway without a helmet covering my ears. Wind and exhaust are killer. Being a guitar player, I vaule my hearing
