View Full Version : Laydown plate holder question

Here in Texas the vehicle inspection sticker is suppose to be displayed and I THINK on a motorcycle it has to be near the license plate ... but I am not sure. As you can see by the eyesore of plate holder I currently have in these two pictures, the inspection sticker is stuck to the holder itself.
I want to get a more clean looking curved laydown plate holder, but they do not have anything to include an inspection sticker so I am trying to figure out what in the hell I do with the inspection sticker when I replace this ugly-ass stock holder. Any suggestions or ideas where to legally relocate the inspection sticker?

Go to your DMV website. You should be able to find out exactly where to attach your inspection sticker. Here in N.H it is placed on the left fork.

I did a little more research and came up with this from the DPS handbook for state inspections.
1. On the Vehicle (Optional). Punch the month of issuance and year of expiration. Remove the certificate’s back paper and attach the certificate face up on the vehicle’s rear fender or any other visible location on the rear near its license plate.
Place the certificate in place and apply firmly. OR
2. Backing Plate (Optional - to be furnished by cycle owner). Punch the month of issuance and year of expiration. Remove the certificate’s back paper and attach the certificate face up on the backing plate which is mounted on the cycle near the license plate for this purpose. Place the certificate in place and apply firmly.
3. Other Provisions - Motorcycles, Motor-Driven Cycles, and Mopeds. Reject the vehicle if no fender or optional location is available for applying the inspection certificate.
On the one hand I can take my chance that LEO won't be anal if I put the sticker elsewhere. On the other hand I would rather stay legal and figure out a way to mount it that would work with a new laydown plate holder. I'll figure out something.

There, figured out a way. No brainer once I saw it mounted. I just took the inspection sticker holder from the other mount and used my dremel to cut off all the excess metal not needed and just mounted it under the lay down mount. Turn out pretty good. You can see the inspection sticker holder just hovering above the tail light. Hopefully I will have a chance to bob the fender this summer, but for now I think this is better. Here's a comparison.

Much better than the billboard that you had before.
