I would like to find out how y'all found The XL Forum. Please vote in this poll.

My first Sportster forum was one on MSN and I can't remember how I found that one coz I'd only just got my first PC and I tended to just find stuff out by accident :o

Someone there posted a link to the XL List and I found this place( :clap ) from a link there.

Never looked back since! :)

Just typed in "xl chop" on google search I think. I was really just lookin for pics of bikes to get some more ideas. Now look what I found

I have hours at work to surf the web and look for anything sportster related. This is by far the best sportster related site yet.

ahhh .. that's it...this one time......at stunt camp......someone called Bert emailed me and asked me to come on board and be a moderator......

I'd only been online about a month or two at that stage...so he made a quick assesment...and I was gettin pissed of REAL quickly with the flaming and off topic purile crap ya had to wade thru to find the good stuff on most other forums...

That was about the same time a couple of long term Moderators on Harley Tech Talk got the shits with the idiots and threw in the towel

So the oportunity to be on the ground floor and keep a reasonably tight lid on things apealed to my base instinct ;) ......mind you we had no shortage of "internet experts" to start with......and they slowly got bored with havin their crap shot down with facts and moved on..

That was in the begining ......many many many many many posts ago now

and here we are now a very large mostly happy family. :D:D:D:D:D

damn how the memory fades with time , seems like a life time ago that I first posted here , I was looking for info on my busted trany and there wasn't any here but there was a few great people here that kept my attention and seemed to tolerate my warped sence of humor

then bert gave me a greater calling than just class clown (I think I still have his pm on the other forum) and I took up the mantel of moderater, it don't pay s**t but its still the best job I ever had

I've joined many other forums (that tweek my interest) but this is the only one that I visit every day (and look forward to visit) all the others are just bookmarks that I seldom go to , there have been weekends (during the winter) that I spend all day here , only leaving to eat or take a leak , this forum helped me pass the time during the months that I was outta work
I know I made some good freinds here , some of which I may never meet in person, but all in all I like the freindly manner that everyone keeps here , shouting matches over the web just annoy the hell outta me

I think originally, when it was looking like my Sporty dream might actually become a reality, I found the old site through Sportster.org.

But then when it did become a reality, and I was basking in the afterglow I went a'googlin'. In fact, I think I actually searched for "Sportster Forum." I used to sneak my old man's Forum magazines when I was a kid, I wonder if there's a connection...

Then I posted a long rambling about my observations, then a few other ramblings, then pretty soon I was interacting with a crazy Ozzie gearhead, a long-haired Jeep guy, a bald-headed gruff old Texan, a cute blonde chick, a manual wavin' music bum, and so on and I was hooked.

As soon as I could, I gladly put out the $30 to become a premium member of what I consider to be the best site on the internet, motorcycle or otherwise.

I was googling, while researching the 1200 conversion.

Before I bought the '01, I had been (just) reading at a particular usenet group, hoping to learn a few things and get some ideas.
I finally posted a question without offering to "buy the room a drink first", and got throughly "flamed", (I noticed the group seemed to be more into insults and egos trips).
Expecting the flame, I replied that I posted "that question" just to see if I would get a reasonable response, or if they even treated a "newbie" poorly.
One fella emailed me the (old) XLForum web addy. Been here ever since.

just bought my sporty last June and never owning one before thought I'd better learn everything I could. Just searched around and found Sportster.org and Donny Peterson's, Heavy Duty Cycle. From there I found the best XLForum. Now I check out this site every day. Tons of useful information and so far one awsome ride.

I was looking for info on a 2005 Sporty, and Walah! Here ya were!

i was looking for sporty pics. And a google search lead me to some pics here.

I was first a member on the vtwin, but that site lacked the atmosphere we've got here and I didn't really love it, so I began a google search for something better.
Found the old xlforum site last May via a google search, took delivery of the bike on June 23rd, and within about a month you guys had me digging in and doing my own mods which convinced me that this site is an invaluable tool for me so I decided to give something back and became premium, which isn't something I do easily unless I really get something from a site. I'm here for the long haul so you are all stuck with me until further notice. :)

I believe my exact search term was "harley sportster forum" because I was specifically looking for a forum rather than just information resources.

I typed "Harley Forum" in Google

Was lurking on V-Twin Forum (God I'm so sorry I admitted to that; please don't hold it against me) and would post a general question from time-to-time. Someone pointed me to here last (???) Sept or Oct. Lurked, listened, learned and joined...

Whuz pokin' around Sportster.org and clicked on a link, and got transported here. (Well the OLD here....) Just appreciated the user friendly format, ease of use,(some other sites are a real P.I.T.A.) and wide variety of people and personalities. Got me thru the winter, I know, this is Vegas and we don't really have winter here compared to alot of y'all, but we did get more rain than we EVER have, and riding here in the rain is no smarter than parking yer bike in the fast lane of the freeway and having a picnic. Your chances of getting run over are about the same.

I think I found the old site through Bert's personnel web page. Found that through Google.

Xena and Bert both gave me some information that linked back to XLF, so I joined up here to ask the question direct instead of going through that other site.

found this one, like what i saw/read (no put down bullshit) and stayed.

I've been an XL-List member since before I actually had my sporty. Joined the 'old' forum pretty much from the onset I believe. Had a period of awayness from forums and then popped back to find the new improved xl-forum !

My Dad gave me the link one day...after a "talk" about how things are conducted, and what is acceptable and what is not, and I liked the idea......so I came in...watched a lot...asked a few questions...

Got my Sporty last July and was wading thru ALL the crap out there looking for good info and Lo and Behold, clicked here somehow, saw the pic of Turbota's round big twin A/C and was hooked.

Now a few thousand dollars later, the bike is running SUPER and I have found these pages an invaluable source of good info. I've learned a LOT, Thanks to all!

To tell you the truth, I had quite a difficult time finding this forum.

Before I purchased my sporty, I figured there would be a forum dedicated to Sportsters in general. I found a few Harley specific forums but it took me quite a while (2-3 weeks) to find this place.

Granted, I only used google to search around the web. Anyhow, I was looking for parts or something one day and the google search string picked up a snippet from a users post and I had finally found what I was looking for.

I was searching for XXX porn and for some reason this site came up.

Searching google for Sportster Forums.

Trying to decide on a scooter American Iron or British Iron. Was reading everything I could on MSN and happened up on sporster.com and then xl forum. Was a deciding factor on my 04R as there is very little on British Iron, that I could find. You got a problem just ask and there is plenty of advice on what and what not to do on the xl forum.

Had been searching around on Google. found sportster.org. lurked there off and on. Never felt comfortable about posting. stumbled on XL Forum by accident. biggest pack of odd balls, comedians, clowns and geniuses i've ever seen. paid my $30. right away. best return for the money i've ever had. Yup, Found through Google. Just after getting the sportster I was looking online for basically anything sporty related. This is by far the best thing I found. I have learned allot and offered allot, Therefore I signed up as a Team Member. I agree with supporting this site to keep it running for those currently using it and as well, New riders to come.

Got banned from V-twinforum.com. Bunch of arseholes any way. So I began a search for a new home to BS and talk bikes. Man I've never been so happy to be banned in my life. This place feels much more like home.

Someone that used to belong to this forum told me about it... she bought a new bike that would two-up better that her sporty... but when I signed up I didn't know her user name, so didn't put that down when I registered here...

I think I was on some HD sponsered site dealing with HOG members personal bikes. This guy had a link over.

I found out from the XL-list but have found that I am always way behind reading the Lists email digests cause I am always here.

To be honest, when I was searching around for things like "Sportster message board" "Harley davidson sportster forum"... things with forum or message board and sportster did NOT bring the site up.

I found it by SEEING XL-Forum in one of my searches... but it should pop up with SPORTSTER queues...

It does now Paulie. I made some changes to forums and now The XL Forum is number one on Google, Yahoo, and MSN when you search for Sportster Forum or XL Forum.

Just checked AOL and The XL Forum is number one there also.

One of my pals brought a magazine back from florida, inside the mag I read an article about the 2nd annual xl rally. The rest is history.....

The forum found me. One of the little voices in my head kept spelling out something and after a few days of making the other voices quit mocking him, I figured out the voice was spelling out WWWXLFORUMNET. It took me a few more days to put the dots in the right place, but the rest is history.

BTW, The voice recently spelle dout PUTNITROUSONYOURSPORTYDUMBASS. Hopefully I read that right:)

How did you find The XL Forum
i found it very informative, yet entertaining.

I used to be into cars (DSM's specifically) and I somehow discovered a forum for that. Then after three years of reading that everyday, I bought a sportster and assumed there was something similar available, googled sportster owners forum, or something similar, and here I am. The only difference is this forum is a lot more helpful, and contains less bashing/flaming than the car one I used to read. This is a great site...not site.. great community, full of knowledge, and willing to share everything that they can to help out others.

I'd like to thank everybody for being so helpful, to both me and others that have posted questions.

Oh yeah, did I mention it's been my homepage since I bought my sporty in August. Love the site.

Surfing the web for sportsters

Just goofen around look'n at sporty stuff and stumbled upon it...

Hard to remember but i think i was on the sportster.org site and linked from there.

I was looking over the PGR site, in the nav section, who ride with us tab, the XL Forum is 47 th from the top of the list and 12th from the bottom.

I took a 12lb. sledge hammer to my computer 3 years ago and didn't care if I ever looked at one again, then I was looking at BACKFIRES, in MOTORCYCLIST magizine while at the store and some guy wrote about this site so now my wife lets me use her computer. This is the only site I ever go to and I think I need to stop. Is there a meeting I can go to or something?

Was at HD dealership...while waiting on my bike saw it advertised on a bulletin board on a wall in a hallway. Didn't write it down or remember much about it, I thought. Asked my riding partener/ spouse to get it for me when he took his bike in a couple of months later. He came back and told me , " no hallway no bulletin board." I said hmmmmm you just didn't look in the right place. So we went up there, he was right. So I said hmmmm must have been at the other dealership. Went 90 miles up the road.....again no hallway no bulletin board. Starting to think I had imagined the whole thing.....then when I was cleaning up all the clutter around my computer I found it written on a piece of paper. I think one of those dealerships must have remodeled some ( at least that hallway ) because I just know THAT HALLWAY AND BULLETIN BOARD WAS THERE SOMEWHERE IN ONE OF THOSE DEALERSHIPS...................but it sure as he** ain't there now !!

Found it while doing a search for tuning issues I was having. Needless to say I am not having these issues anymore thanks to the XL Forum.

Found myself here from a link that was posted on a thread on the about.com motorcycling for beginners website. Liked what I read and became a subscriber when I found out that I didn't have to pay Bert in Euros.

It's been a while, but the best I can remember is thru a Google search.

I found it the first time when it was still the old site,through a Google search.
But for some reason I remember it seemed like it was a pay only site,so I didnt come back for some time.
Then one day at the dealership I met and talked to Preacher for a bit,and he mentioned the site and said it was indeed free to join.
Since then I`ve found this place so usefull that I joined up as a team member (after much procrastination....better late than never:laugh )

My Safety Officer on Kitty Hawk told me about the link. He bought a Sporty and I bought one about 3 months later. Since then I passed on the info where ever I went. I told a few guys I met in Australia they haven'even head of the XLforum 'til then. Great Site!

Was told about it by another harley rider on a drag forum. mostly metric over there much better over here. They think we are crazy to pay what we do for our Harleys.I say they have never rode one, the best always cost more.

I typed a general search in Google for a problem that I was having with my fuel petcock. I think the top 5 or 10 returns were all links to threads on the forum

I dunno, I remember puting the pipe down and some time later....it was on the screen. I was kinda thinking a rogue rodent was responsible.....this big purple one that stops by.

I don't remember precisely either, but I know I was doing a web search for all things Sportster. Now though, whenever I run into another Sportster rider I make sure to mention how awesome the forum is. Amazingly, most of the people I have spoken with were unfamilar with the site.

I googled, for Sporter forum and XL came out on top read this and few others. XL is where I have been since.

I just stumbled across it while doing some homework on what I could do with my first Sporty, (to be purchased in the next month or two).
Made a huge discovery this weekend when I decided to buy a pre-'04 bike to take advantage of the stiffer [non-rubber mounted] frame.
Also, great pics have given me some good ideas on what can be done to a Sporty.

I'm thinking i found the XLF thorough a google search, not sure if i posted this before or not though.

That Google is a nice thing. I had my biek for a while, and wanted to find a forum where I could ask any Sporty question and get an answer. Low and behold, xlforum.net. No other need to look any further.

BEST SPORTSTER SITE ON THE NET !!!!!!

Bought my Sporty, decided I'd get my computer illiterate butt online to see what I could find Sportster related. Like the majority, I "googled" my way here. Lurked for a couple of months, realized it was free to join, so here I am. The info available is incredible, and although I know I'll probably never meet the majority of you guys in person, I already feel like I've made some great friends here. I have to have my forum fix at least once a day!

My brother introduced me to this.

He is a owner of a 2001 sportster and this what happened.

My friend brought me some bike mags back from florida. Inside one of the mags there was a full page report on the annual xl rally, with the web address printed at the bottom of the page. The rest is history.

I was searching for a 'Sportster Forum' on Google.

I'm an admin over on the BOBISTHEOILGUY forum. When I started thinking about getting a Harley, I was browsing through our cycle forum and someone had posted a link in one of the posts to this site.

Was reading something in American Iron magazine and they had a typo. A member wrote back,corrected them, and pointed out that the folks at xlforum kept track of that kind of stuff. I thought hmm,Ill have to check out this site.Been glued to it ever since.Logged off a while ago to check on the wife and kid-according to the note, they left about a week ago. Now about those Mustang seats...

Google search for Sportster sites and this popped up on top and is the best site I've found before or since.

Someone mentioned something about the XLforum on the Sportster page so I came for a look.
Been here since then.

I heard about the forum from my one buddy who recently just sold his sporty after being stationed in Germany with the Air Force.

Before placing my order for my '07 1200R last October, I Google searched for all the info I could find. I was a bit hesitant to go back to "1957" for riding. This forum largely convinced me it could be a very gratifying ride, even if a bit slow and awkward. I've enjoyed it all so far. For loafing about, the bike is pretty darned perfect.

Used MSN and found a bunch of sites with Sporster content, but this is the only one I ever came back to!!!

I'm a technical contributor in a few other forums for professional auto repair and stock car racing....I even have several thousand posts on the auto forum on Craigslist.... but everywhere I've been have been plauged (almost outta control sometimes) by flamers and trolls..... it gets to be that legit questions and decent on topic discussion would get lost in the flames........ this forum is so totally different, people here always seem to treat each other with respect. this allows open discussionof ideas and differences between us are celebrated rather than ridiculed......

I don't know how Bert did this, but my hat is off to him and his moderators.... I will likely be a member here till I'm too old to use a computer any more....okay, I'm off my soap box now.....

Yup, we do have some great mods and they don't put up with any monkey business but I think a lot of the respect we show each other here is because over 75% of us here are over 35. Car forums are full of kids who get interested in cars in their early teens and think they know everything there is to know about cars and life. They have not yet learned that it is okay for someone to say they disagree with them without resorting to name calling.

Most us here have already learned that opionons are like assholes, everyone has got one, and we won't bother getting into a big flame war when someone says they don't like or agree with our opinion.

Where there was this one time at band camp.... Just messin with ya i've never even played an instrument i found it through a google search as well

I don't even think this person is around anymore....I do like their bike, tho.

One day I needed some help.. because I tried taking off my saddle bags and ended up taking off the shock and could not get it back on... So I did a search and some people here offered their suggestions...

I ended up buying a bike jack to lift the bike off the ground.. That sure was an ordeal... People are so nice and helpful on this forum.. I love it!! One of the best finds in my life!!

Rottenralph suggested this forum to me. I bought some handlebars from him and he suggested that I check it out, so I did. Previous thread mentioned that 75% of the people on this forum are over 35. I was just wondering if I am the oldest at 67. Is anyone on this forum older than me?

Bert, it was the stumble effect, just got the HD and looking for some infore on add ons and stumbled in, also found the Sportster Home Page about the same time but I found this to be more user friendly and that one more pic friendly when looking at ideas from other riders, this is definitely a savoir for me when it comes to the sporty, I don't know where I would be without all this useless

Just stumbled upon it when searching for sportster stuff

I flew from Austin to El Paso Texas to pick up my 1200C from Barnett. I used their fly and ride program so I couold get a nice 600 mile break in ride. On one of my gas stops a couple was eyein my bike and came over to say that this was their first vacation not on their bikes and was a little sad about it. We talked a bit and they told me to be sure to check out xl Forum as it was a great place to get sportster info. If you read this, thanks for the tip and I hope you get a great vacation on your bikes next year.

I was cleaning my keyboard and it went off in my hand. There were googles everywhere. Found this forum while I was trying to find a way to mount flat side 5 gallons on my bike. Selfishly joined just so I could get some answers, ended up finding that it is a great community. I've always said bikers are the nicest people. This place has got it in spades! ........................................Still haven't mounted my tanks.

One of the mechanics at the dealer I do work for pointed me this way, several of them ride awesome sporties and visit here.

In the Sportster section on the HDforums I saw the logo on a pic of a Sportster and here I am :)

Was researching Sportsters while trying to decide on a new bike, decided with info on the forum that the Sportster was what I wanted and have stayed ever since.

Troubleshooting my bike, googled problem and this site came up a few times.
