View Full Version : My neighbor just about run me down today!
DM-SC 23rd May 2005, 19:27 I only live about 4.5 miles from work. It can be a pretty nerve racking ride, however, simply because I work in the middle of downtown.
So, I'm almost home today...tunred onto the street I live on, cruising along at 20 mph or so. I pass the crew who's replacing the heating and air ducts two house up from mine...I wave and move over into the middle of the road to pass their trucks and trailer parked along the street. I move back to the right and start to brake and down shift preparing to turn right into my drive way.
That's when the hair on the back of my neck (just about the only place I have any hair left above my shoulders) stood up and I looked in my right mirror. Holy Sh :censor ! There a Honda Accord zooming at me from behind! I turn hard over and blip the throttle! He just does miss me as I escape into my drive way and he makes the hard left around the corner!
As if that's not bad enough, I recognize the idiot as a guy who lives a few house farther down my street! Man, am I ticked! He had to be going WAY faster than the psoted 25 mph speed limit and, he was certainly going WAY too fast to be making the 90 degree left hand corner that starts right at my driveway. You can't see around this left hand corner (or right hander coming the opposite direction) due to my across the street neighbor's fullsize ford and trailer he parks in his front yard.
I'm trying to decide if going to have a talk with him would be wise idea. I manged to control myself as I passed by his house on my way back to work a few minutes ago. I was hopping mad and I didn't think I could control my anger. I don't know him or his wife, though Paula and I have spoken to his wife once or twice.
I hate it when non-residents blast down our street...it really is sad that the people who live on the street blast down it too!
SmokeyXL 23rd May 2005, 19:56 Well, it sounds like you might just let this one slide this once. I hope he knows that what he did. He might be scared because you know where he lives. :laugh
klown 23rd May 2005, 20:05 You should strike up a conversation with him and talk about how you almost got run over by this ass rammer taking a left on this street. He'll get the idea and hopefully slow down.
Grizzly 23rd May 2005, 20:05 Be glad your "spider senses" kicked in and you reacted quick enough to get the hell out of the way. It is a hard choice as to talk to him or not. You kina have to keep the peace in the neigborhood, but on the other hand you may not be so lucky next time, or it could even be a child on a bicycle that gets it. Tough decision man, let us know what you decide.

Very good idea
wussboy 23rd May 2005, 21:46 This is no light matter!!! I think a brick with a note through the windshield would be appropriate!!! :yikes
klown 23rd May 2005, 21:51 Hey vit-1 can you get DM-SC some grenages to toss at this kinidiot?
vicks44 23rd May 2005, 23:33 We had a lead foot in our subdivision (poasted 25 mph) she would do at least 50, several neighbors made comments to her it fell on deaf ears. A call to the county P.D. and they sent out an officer, and he clocked her at 56 a $175 ticket and she is a lot slower... :clap
flskevin 24th May 2005, 00:28 Once you calm down you might want to talk to them, especially if there are kids in your neighborhood.
I had a teenager in my neighborhood forever speeding and running the stopsign nest to my house. I went to the parents of the kid and they said they would do something, if he wants to drive fast go to our local drag strip, but the teen ran the stopsign at a high rate of speed about 2 weeks after and hit a small child on rollerblades.
jiffylube 24th May 2005, 00:46 sneak over his house at night and slash all his tires out then bat all his windows in. :)
chieftd 24th May 2005, 01:58 I prefer the "draining the oil from his motor at night" trick. He'll get a few blocks down the road the next day before it quits.....no more speeding. :)
Regards, chieftd

cant smuggle any real ones out but I know how to make them :smoke
txsporty 24th May 2005, 02:52 I most likely would have followed him and gave him a piece of my mind!!!
And it won't have been pretty!!! :D

Grayfeather.
Jeffytune 24th May 2005, 03:50 Vandlizum, wile fun to think about, and even more to do, has some very undesirable consquences(Getting sue, going to jail)
I would go over an say a Satruday afternoon, so he's more likely to be relaxed, and ask him nicely slow it down, and that you would rather not be run daon and all.
And if that goes no were, there always the Nuke option.
Nuke Option:
Get his name and adress, go down to you local yard and gravel suplyer, order up 10 yards of steer manure. pay in cash, and have it dumped into his driveway.
Best done durring a heatwave.
Or, just go dwon to the local Porno store, and pull a bunch of subscription forms for like, Asin shave P#ssy and the like, then have them sent in his name to his house.
His wife will love him long time.

flathead45 24th May 2005, 13:04 I had a batch of rice boys in their fart can cars speedin by the house for a while (school zone) so I waited till I heard them coming one day and stood right in the middle of the road making them stop walked up to the first one and politely asked him if he knew what he was doing , well he gave me this stupid blank stare that told me he had no idea what to say. I informed him that this is a school zone and if he continued to speed down me street I would gladly have a cop waiting at every intersection just for him and his hommies
they never raced down my street again , ever
altho I had thought about waiting on my roof with a pelletgun and ..... well its best not to do what I was thinking cause it might send one of their cars outta control and into my garage hitting my bikes , and that would be a bad thing
wickedsprint 24th May 2005, 14:30 Yikes, inorder to get himt o slow down, you need to make him feel bad for doing it, not piss him off, we know what happens then, that being said, I would ask him if you talk to him, pull him aside, tell him that he almost hit you, and that was your second close call that day and you are a bit shaken up, and if he wouldnt mind please just being a bit more cautious in the neighborhood around kids.
klown 24th May 2005, 14:53 Dude, I don't know what all this crazy talk is about. Just go over there and rip his f'n testicles out, end of problem :smoke
GOTWA 24th May 2005, 15:09 The residents who live on my street know me well. I scream at anyone who goes flying by the house. Has lead to a couple stand-offs in the middle of the street but in the end, they always slow down.
Got a big house full of Russians two doors down. Bunch of kids hang out there and work on their Jap screamers. Then they like to hear the little lawn-mower sounding things blast and gun it down the road to our corner. I go off. There's just too many little kids around here for that crap. They pretty much go the other way now and scream down to the other corner and go around the block.
A few weeks back I had one flip me off after I yelled at him to slow down. He parked at the house. I headed straight down there and waded into the crowd and right up to him. Not my smartest move but I wasn't having any of it. He saw the light and passes by the house nice and easy now.
Can't say going doen there for a confrontation now would do ya any good DM. These things seem to need to happen right then or the moment is lost on the moron. But I damn sure feel your anger, especially with being on your bike.
lucky13 24th May 2005, 17:06 My neighbor had a few issues w/ this(speeding down our street). I stopped her one day at the edge of her driveway while I was holding my 17month old and asked her if it would bother her to know that I am in the culdesac w/ my son while he plays on his power wheel during which she's in a rush to get home. She gave me the infamous blank stare followed by "what are you talking about". I told her not to worry that I'll make sure and do 50mph down our street when I see her 2 kids out on thier bikes. I think she got the picture. I then told her "don't worry I'm not gonna speed down the street and hit your kids, that's not fair just slow down before you make an unfixable mistake. Life is now simple on our street no speeding soccer moms.
I do remember when I was a kid and my dad had a hell of a temper. There was a guy that lived down the street from us, him and his buddies all had camaros and stangs. They'd hall ass up and down the street in the afternoon. It didn't last long. My dad lost a few hammers in the sides of thier car doors throwing them across the yard and sticking in thier doors or breaking the windows out. It lasted for about a week until one of the guys stopped in front of our house to do a massive burnout. My dad was a few houses up working on his buddies car, heard this and started running down the street jumped on the guys hood then stomped/jumped thru his windshield. That was a very bad day around our nieghborhood. Long story short nobody was arrested and the guy moved out of the neighborhood within a couple of weeks.
There are 2 examples of how this could be handled w/ about 20 years of difference between them. Times have changed, so have peoples actions and reactions. Think it over.
:Xena shakes head:
Didn't your mama's ever tell you that you get more bees with honey?
DMSC, I'd have a civil talk with the guy now before he does it again and then you'll be so steamed you won't have it in you to be civil.

Pffft. It just a figures that a woman would come in here talkin' all that senisble talk. ;)

I think you've touched on a bigger issue than him almost hitting you...
I let a lot of crap slide out in the world, but in MY NEIGHBORHOOD, that's a whole 'nother thing...
There are kids and pets and people to consider...and God help someone who was to (Heaven Forbid) hit one of my kids....
I'd nip that s**t in the bud, but quick...
First, a civil conversation about neighborhood safety and your concerns...as well as those of your neighbors...
After that, well, its tough, but I don't play with that.....I'd hound the cops till they checked this a-holes behavior....

Your Dad sounds just like my Dad! :D
We had these kids who'd fly up and down our street when I was 7-8 years old. My Dad had a talk with them a couple of times and even talked to their parents...they never did slow down. At least not until "The Day"!
It's burned in to my mind like it was just yeasterday. The car tearing down the side street and coming around the corner on to our street just about on two wheels. Well, this particular day was the WRONG day to do it. My Dad was out in our yard working and just happened to have this very large pry bar handy.
He runs out into the road and raises it over his head like he's going to throw it at the car as it approaches. Man! The screeching of tires and the smoke was quite a show! They stopped and just sat there. My Dad walks up to the driver's door and says something to the driver (I never have found out what he said) and then walks back into our yard.
The car just idles by and you know...I can't recall EVER seeing it or any of the other cars in that little group come by our place again!
All this, from a man who was a deacon in our church (Baptist, of course! :D )! :laugh

It's funny, really. I always start out "civil". What makes me loose it, more often than not is, when they show zero remorse for doing the stupid deed!
It really gets me steamed when you talk to people in a "civil" manner and then they get al indignant and defensive... :frownthre
It really gets me steamed when you talk to people in a "civil" manner and then they get al indignant and defensive... :frownthre
Me too, but anybody who has a mindset that will allow them to go 50+ mph in a residential neighborhood will be indignant and defensive when you talk to them.
I would be tempted to visit the local police station (in person) and tell them that there is a problem with excessive speed in the neighborhood. I wouldn't be (visibly) angry or upset - just "factual". You can't look like you're mad at somebody and want to use the police for revenge. It has to be a safety issue. Local police are usually responsive to legitimate concerns of citizens. And if they do start patrolling, I would pay another visit and thank them! And if they don't (after a week or so), I would go back and have another chat with them. See if you can round up some other concerned neighbors who would be willing to at least call the police with this concern. If they hear the same story from multiple people, they will get a lot more "interested".
Getting a traffic ticket for double the speed limit in a residential zone will hurt. I remember a cop handing out a speeding ticket right in front of my house - he was furious with the driver for going so fast. I thanked him for being there, and he started yelling (not at me) about what a jerk the driver was. I loved it.

The local PD are already aware of the speeding problem in our area. We are a "Crime Watch" neighborhood and have monthly meetings with one of the officers. Speeding is one of the main issues that gets discussed every month... :frownthre
HellRazur 25th May 2005, 21:57 Just hang a foot in his ass. Problem solved.
planb 25th May 2005, 22:44 I know I'll take some teasing over my following experiences, but I can handle it...I live in a college town, real close to the university, so the youngsters can drive quite fast after being penned up in school all day...in fact, the university campus is just south of me, and the high school is just east of my house...between that AND soccer Moms, my street resembles a 1/4 mile dragstrip at times! I've tried the police route, but they haven't seem to give it a high priority. So here's a few things I've tried in attempting to slow everyone down: two years ago I pulled a lawn chair to the curb with my video camcorder and some paper and pen...it's amazing how the majority of folks hit their brakes as soon as they saw me video-ing them! The paper and pen was to take down their license number...do it so they see you mumbling their license number as you jot it down! Last year I thought I'd try something different...picked up a chrome hair dryer from a yard sale for fifty cents...cut off the cord, pulled my lawn chair to the curb again, and they thought I had a radar gun...even though later on they'd figure out I wasn't a policeman, the sight of what looked like a radar gun slowed them down again! My last technique turned out to be too dangerous after I tried it once...I mounted a two foot doll on a twenty inch banana seat bike and when I saw an extremely fast car coming, I waited behind my truck and just as they got to my truck, I made it look like the bike and kid were going out into the street...well, it was effective to say the least, but the speeder almost wiped out three cars on the opposite side of the street from me...guess I need to work on that one a bit...
There's a bit of a risk there doing these things with all the road rage out there, but I'm tired of the inaction from the police department...I think my next trick will be some portable speed bumps or those spikes the police throw out in emergencies! I'm sure others here have tried a thing or two...your turn! :D
Reeky 25th May 2005, 23:12 This is no light matter!!! I think a brick with a note through the windshield would be appropriate!!! :yikes
That would be my approach...
Seriously though, something should be said to this shitwit before he kills someone.
I like the doll on the bike trick.
When we lived in a small town in Arizona, we lived on a street that was a short cut by the local High School. Everyone in the neighborhood knew that 'I don't play well with others' meaning morons. After talking with the cops and not getting done what I wanted. I took the Ram Set out and installed 6 rows of 2x4's to make rumble strips accross the road. The cops and neighbors would just wave and nod their heads when they went by.
txsporty 26th May 2005, 00:42 planb
Good thinking!!! :clap
But, what did you do with the Doll!!!! :yikes
:D
;)
longshot48 27th May 2005, 20:16 I think we all know one of those crazy drivers that just don't get it. I have a neighbor that is really nice but she never looks and I mean never looks when she backs out of her driveway. The garage door comes up she comes down the drive out into the street. When I see her car backing out I just stop no matter if I am coming or going and let her get out of way. She caught me by suprise a week or so ago and I had to lay on the horn to keep from getting crushed and she give me a look like I did something wrong.
What do you do !!!!!!
Longshot
dwardy 27th May 2005, 21:00 ...something should be said to this shitwit before he kills someone.
LOL @ shitwit.
sportsterrific 27th May 2005, 21:01 My town has a police program and special phone # for reporting bad drivers. They will take the plate # & send a nice letter to the offender on the first call, afterwards they send an officer over for a nice chat, then they take more drastic action if the complaints continue. I live at a 'T' intersection, so very little speeding, but people don't stop at the stop sign as they should. And I have a kid who plays outside, so I keep an eye on things. I only recently moved there, but I WILL take things into my own hands if some stupid ass punk endangers anyone in my 'hood.- Slingshot with 1/2" ball-bearings ready to fire.
