View Full Version : Stealers injustice
Ordered some chrome extras for the sporty last week. Called one of the local stealers today and they said yeah, they came in, come get em. Went to pick them up and guess what. 1 mirror not in. Said they ordered the wrong one but that not what my papers say.I think they seen my part and sold it before checking their order list. Pissed me off and I made it known. Won't go there no more as the service wasn't that great and they made me feel out of place like I should'nt have been there unless I was buying new.
Jeffytune 27th May 2005, 02:56 Hi chip.
I understand your not happy here, but don't you think your pulling the trigger a big early here?
There is a difference between a customer reseat and a order sheet, it is quite possable that they have the same shortage of robots, and have had to hire Humanbeings.
I try not to think they there out to screw me, but that, like me, they can make a mistake every once in a blue moon.
flskevin 27th May 2005, 03:10 I have never had a bad experience at a dealer. Even when there has been a mistake. I bought a new helmet a while back and had it behind the counter. When I went to pay for it they grabbed the wrong box and I ended up taking the wrong helmet home.
The staff there was so nice they called my house and had a message waiting for me and stayed there after closing to wait for me so I could get the correct helmet.
They could have easily not called and closed up and I would have to wait until the next day.
The peeps that work at most dealerships are not out to be sinister, mistakes happen and roll with it. If there is a problem, the way you handle the problem is key to their response. If you are firm but friendly and understand that this stuff happens they will go out of their way to help.
Get mean and snotty or throw a fit they will make it right but it won't be a top priority.
I'm talking from the experience of once working at a high volume service job that dealt with hundred of complaints a day. And we were much more inclined to help the freindly complainers than the mean demanding ones.
Mistakes like that can happen anywhere. I wouldn't rule this dealer out for one rather minor parts order mistake.
Could be that you are right and they did sell your part by accident. A lot of dealers have a large turn over on the younger sales and parts guys. I know I see new faces in the younger guys every few months at my dealer. Could be that a new guy in training messed up and put your mirror on the wrong shelf, iff they didn't order the wrong part. If this is the case it's not really the dealers fault that some new kid made a mistake.

GazzaI understand what your saying. I even went over the part numbers with him to make sure they ordered the right ones. Waited, called them on the phone and had them read em back to me. Mistakes do happen, but I don't know how parts can't be there when they checked and said they were cause they were labled with my name. Their service itself is no problem when I had top end work done a few years back on another bike. Just over the years I guess you get a few people in who just don't care about the work they perform just so as long as they get a check! I'll give em 1 more shot before I cancel them out and change stealers.

Do you deal with Performance Gary? I notice about everytime I go in there they have different kids working. I didn't buy from them but I work in Syracuse so I stop there alot because its convenient
They are always great to me in there though. Probably want me to buy my next bike from them. I went in for some jets a couple weeks ago and one of the mechanics and the parts dude gave me a 45 pilot and a 170, 175, 180, 185, and 190 mains for free! I asked what I owed them and they said just put them in your pocket. Plus they were very helpful about getting my jetting on with the Big Sucker and Cycle Shacks. They seem pretty decent there.
lefty 1st June 2005, 03:49 :smoke I think you guys are being a little soft on the stealers. Why is a "new guy" "kid" responsible for a parts order. At my stealer the parts people are knowledgeable and expert. They should be, the dealer makes LOTS of money on parts. I spend lots of money at the stealer and I expect a high level of care regarding my business. They don't sell necessities, they sell items on which disposable income is spent. Throwing a fit and expressing dissatisfaction are different. I've spoken to the manager and owner of my stealer when "lapses" have occurred, and have reminded them that they are one of five dealers within easy riding distance from my home. They can blow me off of course, but they are good business people and know that blowing off unhappy customers is BAD business, so they make it right promptly, like overnighting a part and having an employee deliver the part if they made a mistake. Is that expecting special treatment? Nope. It's expecting to be treated like the coustomer that is always right. She knows if I don't get the treatment I want at her shop, I'll get it somehwere else. Don't expect less than great service. If you do, that's what you'll get. . .

Vince,
Yea, Performance is my closest dealer.
There are like three old timers at the parts counter that have been there for the past few years that I've been going there. Then there are about another three to four that are the new kids, always new faces. I guess about the same ratios hold in sales and service.
I get treated pretty well over there. Get a few freebies, but spend more than enough to make up for that.
The owner Dave is an okay guy. As long as you remember that he's a buisnessman that is always geting crap from people. He doesn't have a real outstanding personality so he doesn't communicate well. Sometimes he talks before he thinks about how many different ways hs words can be interpreted and can piss you off, but if you think about it later you can usually figure out what he meant to say, then it doesn't seem so bad.
I pretty much try to stay out of the service dept unless I have to go in. I usually walk away from there pissed about something. Usually triggered by how much money I just got taken for. For some reason I don't get that feeling from the parts counter, even though I seem to spend more up there.
