1988 Sporty frame options

Anybody know what a 1988 frame that originally had an 883 in it is going to be limited to when it comes to motors?

Am I going to be able to slip in a newer 1200 w/out making crazy mods to it?

As long as "newer" is anything pre '04.
Unless you have a rod thru the cases, rebuild.
