Guys,
looking for a bit of a steer here.
Having read through the debates around the V&H short shots, I have decided that I should go for some kind of upgrade.
I run an 09 Sporty Iron and have purchased the staggered short shots (black of course)
My question is quite simple.
What is the best air filter to go for, and what is the best tuner/fuel pak type purchase.
HD recommend the SE high flow filter, as well as the SE Pro Tuner.
Whereas V&H recommend the fuel pak and the Duke air intake (I don't actually like the duke intake at all)
I don't tend to thrash the bike, and am not that bothered about speed etc.
I use the old Ironhead for that.

Make a huge effort to avoid the Fuel Pack.

Care to expand on why to avoid it? I've managed to gather that a lot of people don't like it, but I'm not really sure why at this point. From my uneducated point of view, it looks like a simple and adequate solution. I get there are more powerful products available, but for your average guy who can't tune his own bike, isn't looking for crazy HP, and budget-conscious it seems like a good solution.
All of this from my perspective though, and I'm still trying to learn. Lend me some of your expertise.

Only the tech support guys at the company have any clue what the setting do and they aren't sharing. If they can't help, you are screwed.

NRHS is pretty much the authority on Sportster performance. They make an awesome new round AC with black cover just for "Iron" riders. They have EFI tuners as well.

Since 2007 the aftermarket tuner's fail many times over. gO with the super tuner and you'll be very happy..
Just had a customer with a nighster, switch from a fuel pak to a Super tuner. Short shots and a drake air cleaner and pushing 84 hp to the rear wheel. best on the fuelpak was 72-74..
This wasn't the first time we've switched someone from a fuelpak/power commander and achieved a +10% gain. Time and time again.
For the 06 and earlier bikes, The TTS master tune is a great choice.
HD changed the programming in 2007 and isn't sharing.....
The P/N you'll want is 32109-08B (recently upgraded)

Thank guys - looks like I will be going for the Super Tuner.
I like the NRHS air filter - but was wondering what the Drake one looks like - Couldn't find it when I searched for it.
cheers

I purchased a copy of the latest SEST software and should get it later this week. I will be really interested as to what tables Harley has elected to expose and what critical tables they have chosen to hide from the tuners. I doubt they fixed the very (non windows standard) interface. Graphing, data logging and data exporting were also very limited in the old stuff.
If anyone has a SEST that is married to there bike and no longer has the bike, I would love to play with it and post the results of the testing.

I gotta agree with you, Whittlebeast. I currently run a Fuelpak. Although, I am happy with the way it's running now (X14ieds and Fuelpak) anytime I want to change the settings up, I have to call them to see what does what. I'm sure, eventually, I'm gonna "round file" it and go with a Super Tuner and let my local stealer tune it. Not looking to set my hair on fire when I ride, but I know it's got more in it that what the Fuelpak can give me.

Does anyone know if the SE super tuner comes with windows 7 software?
The ones I have been looking at only have XP or Vista.

I think the latest SEST software is 32111-10 I should have a copy to snoop around at later this week.
Does anyone have a SEST that they no longer need? I would love to do some testing with one.

ReddTigger has got it down pat with the SE super tuner. I want one but the cost is killing me. So I will hold on to my free power commander until i have the funds to buy the better tuner.

So do any of the IT guys on here know if the disk that comes with the Super tuner will work on Windows 7, cos I am sure as hell not paying for a programme I can't run.
