Hey!

I recieved a set of saddlebags and brackets when I purchased my sporty last year. Until now, I just packed them away, dissmissing them because I was never fond of the look of saddlebags..

well, now I find the practicality of the bags and am finding uses for them all of the time. Now, I finally decided maybe I should give 'em a try.

One problem: I am completely clueless about saddlebags, the anatomy of them, and how to install them. I searched through the night trying to piece together information, but I'm still confused on how to install the set I have.

Here are the pictures of my bags and supports:

I believe the supports should go on like this, correct? If true, this would probably mean I need longer shock bolts.....?

Or are these throw-over bags? If so, would they go on something like this?

If anyone could give me some tips, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The supports look to be right. Yes, longer shock bolts look as if they're needed. Is your seat a single or 2-up? I would find something to cover the metal snap fasteners or you could be in for some paint damage. Also something to go over the fender where the straps lay on it. Mine are different, with solid leather attached/laced between the two bags. I use an old foam backed mouse mat on my fender where the adjoining leather goes over the fender.

thanks william for the quick response

I have a 2up seat. I believe you are talking about the snaps for the straps connecting the bags? I'll have to find something to use for them...

i read that you can skip the brackets and secure the bags to the shocks with a zip-tie.. but I think I'm going to use the brackets because I am installing RK shocks this week..

I would keep the brackets on also. Even when the bags aren't in use. They look ok on a Sporty...

yeah not bad at all

The GF and I are planning a few one-day trips and the bags will be nice to throw on.. not to mention lunch for work, grocery store/beer runs, and getting parts for my truck!
