I am getting ready to do my 1000 mile maintenance (2005 883XLC). And I want to "pay my taxes" at the same time. How much can I expect to spend to do this?

I think I was quoted around $1000 to do the 1000 mile svc and Stage 1 at the dealer. This included the SE slip on mufflers. You can do a lot or all of the Stage 1 yourself to save money.

Not unless you really have to. For the price the dealer charges you for pipes, free flowing a/c, jets, and labor you could do it yourself and get better pipes and a/c. If you like doing simple maintenance you can add slip on's in 30 mins or a full header on in one hour. First time rejetting your carb about 1-1 1/2 hours. After a few times you can rejet a carb in 30 mins. It's alot easyer than it sounds. Plus if you don't get the jetting like you want it you can change jet sizes and fine tune it. When the dealer does it they usually just throw in some ballpark size jets. If you want them to fine tune it, well more labor at 65+ an hr. Yeah for the money you can save on labor you'll have alot better set up! If you dig around on this forum you can find everything you need to do it yourself, step by step pictures everything. And if you get stuck just ask someone on the forum they will be glad to help. :tour

Being a girl and all, I assume my stealer took me for a fool.

They wanted 600 plus bucks for Stage 1 (a 75.00 dyno kit no less!!!). When I said, "can't you just put in two new jets instead of the Dyno Kit?" the service guy replied, "Well, it's more than just jets." I said, like what, and he said, "well, you get a couple of drill bits and a spring." He looked pretty damned sheepish when I looked at him like he was flippin' crazy. I KNOW what's in a dyno kit, and I know it aint worth 75.00 bucks.

Like the guys said before me, pipes about 150 bucks, air cleaner (Ness Big sucker is only about 80.00) and jets about 3.00 each.

As far as 1K service, I've seen people post anything from 170.00 up to about 250.00, depending on the dealer.

Hey Trib if oyu are running stock 42 slow move to 45 slow or 45 to 48 on your slow jet!
If you have a 150 main go to 160 main or if you have 160 go to 170 on your main ! Hope this helps! IN other words go up one size from existing size.

You can get most of your parts cheaper through independent shops that may not be affilliated with HD. I know my local shop B&M Cycles has most of the stuff I need way cheaper than the Harley shop about 5 miles down the road. Plus if you need help these guys usually don't try to take you to the bank. An HD 1,000 mile service is around $300 beans...an indy usually is around $200 beans. Also you might want to order or buy as many tech manuals that you can along with researching this site. You will save more money in the long run doing the easier stuff yourself. More money saved means more money for customizing your scoot or taking your significant other out on the town.

DynoJet Kit $ 50.00
SEII slipons $ 170.00
Hi-Flow AC filter $ 23.00

I did my own mod. to get more air through the air cleaner "cover".

I admit that the DynoJet Kit probably wasn't really necessary, but in the long run it might be worth it. I'm having a bit of trouble with her running rich from idle to 1/4 throttle. Because I did the complete DynoJet install, the local dealer's mechanic has been more then willing to offer "over the phone" help.
He commented "It's tough when I'm not sure exactly what was done to the carb. if the DJ Kit wasn't used".
Although he did have a few questions about how I "opened-up" the air cleaner. :)

Good Luck,
