Scooter_Trash 24th August 2007, 01:27 Kev? You OK? I'm sure those Guzzi's will be alright.

XL883L 24th August 2007, 02:00 wierd to see the truck and trailer messed up like that and bikes still upright in feet of water

Mocha-lite
Donz5oh 24th August 2007, 02:48 At least he has somewhere to keep his coffee now.
mark883 24th August 2007, 02:58 I think KevM may be having a nervous breakdown about now.
That's some ugly stuff.
There's been some nasty flooding in MN/WI and just south of me in Findlay and Ottawa OH.
Did the yellow guzzi get driven into the purple portajohn behind it? Kinda looks like it.

Uhmmm actually, too much whisper down the lane going on here, it was a flash flood, no tornado (at least not from any of the first hand reports I read).
wierd to see the truck and trailer messed up like that and bikes still upright in feet of water
What is a real shame is you should see the photograph of the 2 antiques that were in that trailer. They were GORGEOUS.

I didn't realize this news had made it to the XL forum. Suffice it to say I heard the first reports the next morning as people were making their way home.
Basically the story is this, the campground is along a river, and in a relatively low lying area. They're not sure if a damn upriver gave way or opened flood gates or what, but the water came up so quickly that some people had to be cut out of their tents as they were being swept away.
I read posts on wildguzzi like "thanks to whoever pulled my head out of the rising waters, I didn't see you but I would have drowned if not for you."
Though some lives were lost, as far as I know there were no serious injuries at the rallye. None but the bikes.
All in all, about 30 bikes (mostly Guzzi, but including at least one FLH, one Wing, and one BMW) were lost (under 6-12' of flood waters for about 12+ hours).
Some of the photos you're looking at include the Moto Guzzi North American Demo Fleet. :(
One Jackal owner had already stripped his bike to the frame and motor down to nuts and bolts and had it back together running within 2-3 days!!!
But it was SCARRY the amount of mudd and crap he was cleaning out of every nook and cranny.
That lime Green V11 sport was a BEAUTY, from AZ too, it was a completely rust free machine! :frownthre
Very sad, but the stories of people helping people are good ones.
And, well, used Guzzi's are cheap enough anyway.
Sounds like most of the insurance companies are just totaling em and offering pretty fair values too.
Time will tell.

YES, but these are Geese not Ducs...
oh yeah, Geese are SUPPOSED to like water too.
Trust me they don't.
I actually washed mine (for the first time in about a year) and I blew a dash bulb and shorted out the turn signals. :doh  :frownthre

Vegas1200C 6th September 2007, 14:04 My bike must have been there too cause it is filthy lately.
I saw video of (I think it was them) and Arlen Ness bike rally that got washed out. Couple feet of water carrying some pricey bike down the street. Never a good scene.

I remember some BS chopper crap show on TV that was following some "Hamsters" ride... meaning custom builders and their rich friends.
Anyway, that might be where the video you saw came from, cause there was some sort of rain-storm, flash flood that hit a couple of the crap overpriced custom bikes and I never laughed so hard but as to watch them almost get swept away.
I can't stand Arlen's stuff, but then again there aren't many custom builders I do like.
But Arlen couldn't leave well enough alone, he had to start F'n up production Victory bikes too :frownthre
Vegas1200C 6th September 2007, 14:17 That was the one. I remember some broad yelling save the bikes and I'm thinking get to safety. I'm sure the bikes (not to mention the trailers they rode up in) are all insured. Middle aged business men should not be fighting a flash flood to save a show bike.

Maybe he'll start "hamsterizing" some guzzis for next year!!! Heard he's looking for a new $$$ angle.....:roflblack:roflblack:roflblack

Thing is,
That's how a buddy of mine almost drowned at the Guzzi nationals.
He and a friend we're both trying to push their Guzzis (not show bikes at all) to safety in about knee deep water when the tumult really hit and he was the one who posted the thanks to whomever pulled his head out of the water.

CT1200 6th September 2007, 14:45 Mother Nature is not one to mess with.
I remember a flood in PA back around '98ish, mabey '99. Jefferson County
I was at my grandparents and was to head back home to CT.
I could not make it to an Interstate anywhere, every single road crossed a stream, brook, crick, etc.
My grandfather worked for the township at that point so I went with him to attend to the roads. That was a long day.
FSZEKE302 6th September 2007, 15:06 I'd thought of a couple of funny [to me] lines for those photos. Truth is, ain't none of it very funny. Just glad the people involved survived without a lot of worse injuries. Shame that beautiful and valuable bikes were damaged. Sucks to loose things you're passionate about.:frownthre

Hey, non-flood related, but there is a guy on the Wildguzzi board, from the NYC Tri-State Area (Westchester ish) who is selling a 2000 Jackal, 40k miles (i.e. my bike, just a couple more miles) for
$3k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear to God I'd buy it unseen for parts if I had the cash OR I'd buy it and Cafe it!!!!!
Jeeeezuuus, that's $8-9k bike that's gonna run 100-200k EASILY for only $3k
:frownthre
Donz5oh 6th September 2007, 17:34 I'm not a big guzzi fan but I looked up some stuff on that Jackal and I'm actually impressed. I like the look of the bike. Maybe I should start looking on the guzzi boards for one. ;)

They pop up all the time in the $4-5k range, but this one in NY for $3k is just a STEAL!!!
They're fun bikes, looooooooooooooong lived and tough, while still being light and fun, they're the same dry weight as a rubbermount sporty, but with better suspension (especially front end) and much better brakes stock, power is similar though the motor is higher revving torque is still pretty linear.
As much as I love our Sporty, I remember why I love the Jackal more every time I get on it.

FI-EVO
Not many people understod it in 96 and these days it wouldn't be real unique.
