Interesting Hot Street qualifying results from yesterday:
http://www.ahdra.com/ahdrauser/qualifying/Hot%20Street.htm
Dan Norlin sits in #1 with a 10.348 @ 130.71mph
Sergio Zenobi sits in #2 with a 10.379 @ 130.45mph
Dan's motor is an 82ci setup that generally makes just shy of 140hp. It's broken 140 on occasion. Right in that range. It was built in our shop and we've messed with it a lot.
Sergio has a really nice bike but it's been a frustrating endeavor for him to get it going. I'm not sure who has been doing his motor work, but he's never been competitive in HS. He ended up buying an old set of heads from Dan, a set of NRHS prepared STD heads that Dan had been using and worked really well. But he could never get the power out of the motor he should've.
Earlier this year, he and Dan were chatting at a race and Dan, feeling somewhat responsible since he sold him the heads, offered to go through the motor for him and make it right. He brought the bike to Colorado and took it apart in my shop. Made many detail changes to it and a few more major changes. Did it the way we do motors at NRHS. Not that there were any gross mistakes, but we saw several areas we could improve on.
We finally got it on the dyno last Sunday and it pulled 141.2hp, which is respectable for an 88ci motor. Dan took it to Woodburn and delivered it to Sergio.
Now they're running neck and neck, and Dan may have helped someone beat him! We'll see, eliminations are today.
Sergio has got to be thrilled to finally be competitive in Hot Street after trying so hard for so long and spending piles of money for years.
Kerry, Sergio's motor is set up almost just like yours. Your heads are actually better. You have a lot more potential in that bike than you're getting out of it. Sometimes it just takes some work, to figure out what's holding the motor back and sorting it out. But your fundamental pieces are capable of supporting north of 140hp.
