That's still a rip. I get 4 qts of Amsoil for $28, a filter for $10 and the satisfaction of knowing it was done right and that includes changing the primary for under $40. It takes less than 30 minutes.

I just checked here at the local dealership in Oregon, and Syn3 is $8.50 a quart X 4 (34.00), $13.00 for chrome filter, $3.00 for oil disposal, and a half hour of labor (31.05) = $81.05 for a simple oil change! Wouldn't take long to recover your money buying a manual and an oil filter wrench and doing it yourself...just pour the used oil down into the storm drain...JUST KIDDING! Oregon is full of tree hugging, granola eating, tofu fartin' hippies, so the city picks up used oil in plastic milk jugs right at the curb once a week...or the city has a 24 hour recycling center that takes all recycleables, including batteries and oil.....

So if that price is close to what they would charge in Pa, you'll save twenty dollars of so with that special...

I just go to my local autoparts store, Advanced Auto they have free oil and battery recycling. I could just relable my used amsoil as HD 20W50 dino oil and sell it back :D , just kidding.

Fee for used oil disposal? The stealer makes money on the used oil. Also, US Law (EPA)mandates they take the used oil for free. What a rip. Change it yourself.

I thought EPA/Feds had a law about oil recycling too... but looks like it is a voluntary state by state thing! :frownthre

every pepboys/autozone/checkers/stealer/mechanic has taken my oil w/o issue though

Well I suppose this post has infuriated a few but all it was intended to be was a for your information. I change my own oil and dispose of properly at no charge . I don't use syn oil . Oil changes are easy but I am sure there are a few owners that don't want to be bothered. So if the deal fits use it!!!

I agree, there are plenty harley owners that don't do any work themselves, just let the dealer do it. This would be an excellent deal for them. Thanks for keeping this forum posted on what the local stealer is offering. :clap

I take my oil to a local garage. An auto repair shop (here in NY) is allowed to burn used oil in their furnaces, if their furnace is setup to do it. So my auto mechanic loves to see people pull in with used oil... more free heat for him in the winter.

Going to the dealer for an oil change is never been a good deal ... no matter what the sale happens to be at the moment.

Changing your own oil is just about the simplest task you could imagine.

I still can't understand why folks find it nessesary to drive to the H-D dealer and pay those prices? Absolutely beyond my understanding.

BTW ... AutoZone and many other large retail auto stores will take any used oil you bring them for no change.

I've changed the oil myself in my cars & bikes for the past 30 years-I like doing it, & I get the satisfaction it's done right. Footnote: I've always pre-oiled my filter, anyone know if car dealers & in particular Harley dealers do that when they do an oil change? Just curious...

What are you guys using for filters I had bought my filter at a local non-Harely shop (Custom Chrome) but he closed. I see Wal-Mart had Fram Filters
for Harleys (chrome ones) for $9.97 here on Pa. Just wondering if anybody ever used one. I was looking at a old harley filter it looks like it's got some kind of spring type valve inside I couldn't see that in the Fram.

i did that also:doh. if only i had known.
i bought bike knowing nothing about harleys so i wanted to make sure i didnt mess with extended warranty that came with the bike. i probabaly could have bought the bike without both and saved even more on it, but i figure better safe than stupid.
