View Full Version : Another loss for motorcycles
NMdesertrider 3rd June 2005, 22:35 This event happened a year ago at the Red River Memorial Day Motorcycle Rally. The driver's friends said that he was playing chicken with the motorcyclists. Witnesses at the scene said the kid was laughing as he walked away from the dying men. The first judge to hear the case was a friend of the kid's family and said that the kid did nothing wrong; even though his choice to drive without a license and play chicken with motorcyclists claimed two lives. :frownthre
RED RIVER, N.M. (AP) - State police have finished the second inquiry into a crash that killed two Colorado motorcyclists.
Chief Carlos Maldonado says an accident reconstructionist found that Gerald Bailon was not driving recklessly, but was inexperienced at the time of the Memorial Day weekend crash.
Bailon was 15 and did not have a driver’s license.
Police say the pickup Bailon was driving crossed the center line and struck a motorcycle head-on, killing 59-year-old Leslie Walker of Pueblo, Colo. Another motorcycle spun out of control, killing 41-year-old Tim Serles.
Prosecutors have said vehicular homicide charges can only be pursued in cases of drunken driving or when a motorist who kills somebody is driving recklessly.
Kathleen Pullara and Jennifer Serles, two women who survived the crash, said they were appalled by the officer’s finding.
I'm not one for advocating violence, but I think that punk should be crucified publicly. Looks like I'll be skipping the Red River rally next year and heading to Salida instead.
I saw a couple of bad accidents up there the 2 years that I went (2001 and 2003). Most of them were between RR and Eagle's Nest. I'm suprised with some of the bikers there that they let the kid walk away.
When and where is Salidas?

And have joined the Western Confederation of Clubs in advocating a Nationwide protest of New Mexico's Red River Valley (will cost them 600,000 in Biker revenue) due to the injustice this whole case has brought towards motorcyclists. The Mayor and local Councilman in Red River, NM has bagged for the Bikers not to boycott and will get to the right outcome BUT as we can see, the locals could give a rats ass and conitnue to protect this kid who murdered 2 bikers and permanently maimed a female passenger. This is not the only case of injustice here either.
New Mexico is not Biker friendly...As for the kid, he needs to be dealt with oldschool style.
Loco
SoCal....
ForensicSgt 3rd June 2005, 23:26 The simple fact that the inexperienced P.O.S. got behind the wheel, with no DL, shows reckless disregard for the safety of others. I'd like to know who this accident reconstructionist was. Anyone hear of a name being mentioned? Or his particular "reconstructionist" qualifications?

That's exactly what I was thinking...
Driving without a license is reckless in and of itself...killing someone while you do it is clearly homicide....

I disagree. The kid was/is a punk who needs to have justice brought apon him, but don't lump all of us New Mexicans in with him.

1. Walked away from dying men...WRONG!
2.Crossed the center line...WRONG!
Am I missing something???!!?

Whoa,Whoa, hold on there. The administrations of certain townships and counties might not hold motorcyclists in high esteem, but please realize that people IN THE KNOW (us) regard NM as an oasis in an ocean of prairie. We love your state for the scenic beauty and friendliness you offer. New Mexico holds what Texas wishes it had - 14,000+ ft peaks and marvelous vistas with expansive areas of pines and aspen. We in the Texas panhandle sometimes wish we could be a few hundred miles to the west, so we could enjoy the same riding environment as you in certain seasons. That being said-
Could we have some verifiable documentation of the "Witnesses at the scene said the kid was laughing as he walked away from the dying men"?
Two sides to every story and usually both of them are wrong on certain points. Never had a bad experience in NM, and I will continue to visit the state on two and four wheels. Great State.
Like Doc said, where is Salidas?
Panzer 6th June 2005, 02:13 Salida is in Colorado... about 40 miles northwest of Canon City, where the Royal Gorge Bridge is located. I think they do have a biker get together there every year... perhaps someone else from Colorado will chime in.
