View Full Version : new buy and salesmen
carl2124 4th June 2005, 20:34 Hi group,
Im hoping to pick up my 2005 slightly used custom this tuesday when the bank I am getting a loan comes through.I am buying this bike through a local atlanta harley dealer (used).
On thursday I went to talk to the first salesman who happen to be in the used department to let him know how the loan was going, and to look at the bike some more, well,as I was getting into my truck, another salesman ,who gave me his card 2 weeks earilier while I was taking my MSF course, came up to me and asked me if I remembered him,and I said "yes".
He than went on about how he was nice to me and that I was taking money out of his pocket.Well, I aplogized, and explained that I had not plan on buying a bike last thursday, and didnt know that the used department was separate from the new,or else I would have used him.
I ignored him at that point and said "whatever" and got in my truck and left...I havent said anything to the management, because i understand why he was upset, nevertheless, that is un called for in my book.
Jeffytune 4th June 2005, 20:44 That was just wrong.
I have worked enough at dealers to know you NEVER bring a customer into a problem that should be handled without you ever knowing it.
What he should have dome was talked with you just to confirm you were who you are and that you know him, then after you leave he should take that complaint to the sales manager to get a split of the comission.
That goes on all the time.
But he should have never confronted you about it, I would have told him, "Fine, then I will go to the other dealer and buy it for them!"
Yes, you should talk to the sales manager.
Jeffytune 4th June 2005, 20:48 BTW, did you see the post I put up about my local dealer(Who will ship tp you) having a Sportster sale, and 2005's at MSRP, no set-up or frieght or other extra's at all.
And that is Harleys MSRP, not something they came up with. Since you are using your own banks money, well it could save you a bunch, and yes the warranty is good at any Harley dealer.
carl2124 4th June 2005, 20:57 Hi Jeffytune,
Yes I did follow up on that, and it was due to your "logical" good points that I chose a Harley instead of the Suzuki c 50.When I went to look at used bikes, this was had the two toned paint job, with only a 1000 miles on it,backrest, and service done to the 1000 mile mark, also it had stage one done with detachable windshield for the out the door price for 10600.00. So I thought it was a good deal at the time.My offer was 9600.00,but taxes and doc fee brought up the price. And thank you for the reply for the other dealer.
Willard 5th June 2005, 02:59 Jeffytune hit the nail on the head. You NEVER,EVER treat
a customer that way.
I wish you would PM me with the dealer's name, so I can
tell all my friends and neighbors to avoid these clowns . . .
I'd also like to drive up to Atlanta and see if these guys want to
try and jerk an old man around a little . . .
Sorry if I started rambling, but this pisses me off.
xllent01 5th June 2005, 03:15 Just cause you meet someone on the street, and
exchange a few words about bikes it dont mean a
shitin thing.
Buisness is buisness you dont owe him a damn thing.
That's his problem he was late getting to you in
the showroom and making a sale.
rider1951 5th June 2005, 04:03 I would think if he keeps that up he won't be selling for long. You probably should have asked for him but he shouldn't have come after you like that.
gearhead1972 5th June 2005, 04:04 Well if it was me, and some guy said your taking money out of his pocket, I would let the sales manager and owner know very fast that the moron they have working for them just took money out of the whole dealers pocket, and take my business else where.
barry1967 5th June 2005, 04:50 At the dealer I work at the sales folks ae paid an hourly rate. No commisions.
bubbahog 5th June 2005, 10:47 It's a shame that the salesman is losing money, but his attitude proves that he didn't deserve it in the first place. I'll go with the above - talk to the sales manager. You won't get anything out of it, but you might improve the dealership...
JohnMonk 5th June 2005, 20:35 I'm in sales also and on the rare occasion I see an associate selling a MINI to someone that I've talked to I get sick at my stomach. I then swallow that :censor and realize that I must not have made a good enough impression for them to ask for me. I would let the manager know that you did not appreciate the confrontation. I would never do that, I'd just talk :censor behind your back. :D Just kidding
famousperson 6th June 2005, 13:38 Nobody likes a confrontation like that but the poor guy probably has a wife and kids to feed just like everybody else. I can see his point.
He dosen't have a point -- the guy is not a professional -- makes the dealer look bad makes him look bad. Like Monk says part of profession is being likable enough to make a customer want to come to you. In a Wal-Mart world customers have turned in to your basic ass but there is still no reason for a professional to act less than professional.
SportsterBart 6th June 2005, 14:32 The guy was way out of line. You don't owe him anything.
He is supposed to be a representative of a major company, and he tries to lay a guilt trip on you? Very unprofessional in my opinion.
