I'm looking at an 04 1200R, Real Red, w/ 963 miles and another 1 1/2 years left on warranty. The bike is stock. What would be a good price for this bike? Thanks in advance. Guy

Check the e-bay listing for the 04 sportsters and see what you find.

Thanks Skooter, I have tried e-bay and it is kinda tough because most bikes do not meet the reserve there for they do not sell. Thanks, Guy

If you can get the dealer to show you the red book value for the bike. Thast will be the retail number. I don't think it will be too far off the price of a new one. You are after all saving money on Prep and delivery that you would pay the dealer if you bought a new one.

It's from a private owner. What would this bike have cost new? thanks, Guy

E-bay isn't a good factor at setting the value of a motorcycle.
Most people get desperate and throw things on E-bay
just to get rid of them.
Check NADA or Kelly Blue Book for actual price on what it

Base MSRP (2004 XL 1200R)
Optional Paint (other than black)
Optional Factory Security System (most have them)
Dealer Freight (fixed price)
State Tax, Dealer Prep, License, Title and Document Fees extra for a new bike.

I just checked on www.nada.com - they don't have any 2004's priced yet; you might want to check www.cycletrader.com, maybe that would give you a better idea.

Does $7400 sound reasonable? I may be bringing it home this weekend. Guy

Sounds pretty good to me! Not even 1K miles yet...any options on it? Guess it doesn't matter at that price...never been dropped? The person that mentioned cycletrader is a good idea...I haven't looked at one in a month or two, but I know there were some 2002 and 2003's going for THAT much! Good luck!

To me, that is an "excellent" price!

The bike is bone stock. Purchased new in Sept. 2004, 3 months ago. Warranty til Sept. 2006. Guy

If he could have found an '08 in 2004, it would have been A LOT more than $7400 I bet!
