Picked up my new 2008 XB12Ss on Thursday.first thing i noticed was a rough idle and poor throttle response.This only happened from idle to about 2000 rpm.Took it back to the stealer on Friday.It took the service dept. 3 hours just to look at the bike and another 3 1/2 hour to diagnose the problem.
They determined that the TPS needed resetting, but did not know what to reset the voltage at.(no Service Manuals for the 2008's yet!!?):frownthre Anyway,they shotgunned the problem and the bike does run good but could be better. Overall i'm very happy with my purchase. AWESOME bike.

I have the same bike, and I have had the same problem. My stealership told me that all buells do it and that the only thing that would fix it would be a race ecm... they dont even make those for the 2008! But from what I am reading the 2008 ecm is adaptive and shouldnt need tuneing, I am breaking mine in a little to see if it gets better.

If thes bikes are "Brand New" then give it a few miles (like 300 miles) for the ECU to self learn. The Harley got lots better with time. I think the Buells use a MAP based EFI logic. If that is true then the TPS setting (assuming it is working) is not all that critical for the EFI maping. They are fairly easy to test if you have a good Multi Meter.

My '08 XB12Ss was rough the first couple of days, but I notice that it is slowly getting better.

Break in is a 1,000 miles, and I figure that is what it is for, ... seat the rings, educate the ECU, etc.

First several hundred miles you will have some excess blowby and the ECU is going through it's learning curve.

You need to call Al at American Sport Bike and ask him about direct link software. what it does is actually resets your ECM to help with the EPA mandated lean condition your bike has to have stock.

I thought the 08's were going to have automatic TPS reset, everytime they started up??.

I remember reading about it somewhere,????.

According to the Service Manual, with the '08 models the TPS resetting is accomplished without the need for a plug-in diagnostic tool:

Have the Run/Stop button set to Run.
Turn the ignition key to the On position but do not crank or start the engine.
Open the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second.
Close the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second.
Repeat the throttle open/close procedure a total of three times in succession.
Turn the ignition key to Off/On/Off/On/Off in succession to complete the procedure.
