Anybody got a dealer recomendation within approx. 150 miles or so from Raleigh, North Carolina? I've got a search listing (10-15 dealers) from the HD website, but I'm looking for some more feedback...any good experiences with specifically sales, but service and parts feedback would help too.

The folks at Ray Price (in Raleigh) are nice and its a big dealership, but based on what I've seen its gonna be a haggle to get them down to MSRP. They list all their Sportsters for $875 over MSRP, and also list $283 in dealer fees (in addition to tax and registration). Maybe a more rural dealership with less potential customers nearby would be willing to move bikes at MSRP with reasonable fees.

FWIW I'm in the market for a black 1200R Roadster, looking to purchase sometime in the next 10 months. I'm between trying to purchase a late summer '05 or maybe just ordering an '06 over the winter.

This post got a little long, thanks in advance for any input.

Dirt Devil,
I'm in High Point, NC, and I am lucky enough to have four HD dealers within 30 miles of my house. I wanted to buy bike from the High Point dealership but they couldn't get the color I wanted (by the way, HD of High Point and HD of Greensboro are owned by the same guy). They are a MSRP dealer.

I bought my Sportster at Cox Harley Davidson in Asheboro, NC, and I got it at list with 20% off my first purchase of accessories or Motor Clothes--they gave me 20% off the Screamin Eagle pipes and A/C at the time of purchase, also. They are very good folks to deal with and their service department is great.

I have also bought parts and accessories from HD of Greensboro and Curly's HD in Winston-Salem and have found them both to be good people to deal with. Check with Davis HD in Burlington, too, which isn't that far for you to drive. A few months ago I had a brain cramp and was looking to trade the Sporty for a Road King. Davis had the bike I wanted and had it listed at MSRP, so I know they sell at list--luckily I came to my senses and decided to keep the Sporty!

My buddy bought his Softail from Tilley's in Statesville (they are also in Salisbury) and had a good experience there. They have a lot of bikes in stock and the last time I was in there--a month ago--they had a good selection of Sportsters.

With so many dealers in the Triad area there is a lot of competition for business. The only thing is, Cox in Asheboro doesn't keep too many Sportsters in stock and HD of Greensboro will try a little bit to steer you to toward a BT.

If I can answer any questions for you, please don't hesitate to ask. Good luck.
