View Full Version : ComicLife Installation Instructions for Tachometer
jgaither 7th September 2007, 04:19 Tell me what you think of these installation instructions. I think you'll find them unique! They were done in a program called ComicLife by plasq.
Tell me if you think they look childish or if you think they add some fun. Let me know if you think they seem unprofessional. Or if they would give you less confidence installing with them.

racerwill 7th September 2007, 04:38 I like them.... the purpose of instructions is to allow the installer to do it easily and correctly. Usually the fewest wordsand the simplest language is the most universally understood.

Deimus 7th September 2007, 04:52 I find the over-lapping layout distracting. Also the flow from (1) to (2), being on the right side of the page, is not the natural direction we usually read a page making the instructions seem more chaotic. The flow from (5) to (6) and from (7) to (8) are more "natural" and therefore easier to follow.
When I read instructions, I want to be able to quickly scan the page(s) and absorb the information being presented. I don't find these instructions as being easy to scan. Mainly the issue is that I have to sort out the overlapping text and diagrams. I have to say I don't think the comic style appeals to me; though, it might be fine if it weren't overlapping on the pictures.
lm118 7th September 2007, 05:33 Unique and very creative.
Personally I like instructions that are more conventional, but I can certainly see the appeal of these.
NA7A 7th September 2007, 06:19 I like them very much but the text boxes seem a bit large and take up some of the photo that a person may need to look at in order to relate to their bike. Just my 2 cents but I like the comic style text notes. Your photo's here are very clear, I like that. By the way, I am going to get one of your tach's just as soon as I save up for one. I'm getting the black one and install it just like you have it here. Keep up the great work.

It is a really simple and easy to use program. Easier than MS Word.
Thank you to everyone, for taking the time to look at the directions and take the time to comment. I really appreciate it
Thanks!

beuz 7th September 2007, 13:46 Very nice.
Nightster has just started it's carrier, last week, in France...
I copied the link in french forums for future nightster owners...
Thanks !!!
langner91 8th September 2007, 00:13 I don't know if it is my computer, but the text is bigger than the text box in many cases. This leaves me guessing at the first or last word or two in some cases.
Just because I like to pick nits, on the first page you have "inplace" as all one word.
Finally, I find it very "jerky" in scrolling. I don't notice other .pdf files are this jerky, so I wonder if it has to do with your software.
Good thinking about having Nightster specific instructions! :p It will be nice to see the "Low" instructions. :banana
In all seriousness, I think you have a great product, I look forward to buying one soon.

Actually the 883L and 1200L instructions are exactly the same as the nightster, since they use the same basic speedo and headlight setup. It's the custom's with the risers that are different...The 2 sets of instructions cover all the current sportsters now.

Me too (on a Mac). But like the others I think they do a great job explaning the installation.

My comment was meant as sarcasm. Sorry it wasn't obvious.
The reason it was sarcasm was because you are correct. BUT, the instructions as shown are titled "2007+ Harley Davidson Nightster Installation Instructions." Shouldn't they be titled "2004+ Harley Davidson Sportster Installation Instruction (except 883C and 1200C)?
My point being that these instructions will work for the 2004+ 883L, 1200L, 883, 1200R, 883R, and XL50. But, as with everything else lately, there has to be Nightster specific instructions or some people will not believe they fit the 1200N. So, if the OP is going to create installation instructions for the Nightster, shouldn't there be one for the Low?
It is still a Sportster.
DC in PHX 8th September 2007, 02:15 I like it!

jgaither 12th September 2007, 16:18 You are correct here. I should rename it, and hopefully cut down on confusion.
Thanks for all the great feedback! Currently 16-4
lets keep the poll going!
