'86 seat fit an '02

I'm looking at a Lepera seat on ebay that was on an '86 Sportster, buyer say it will only fit up to '86. I thought '84 through '03 seats were all the same.
Am I wrong?

Should fit '82 - '03. Of course the gas tank might make a difference. What size tank do you have and what size tank did the '86 have?
