View Full Version : Replacement turning signal lenses
Albie1200 13th December 2004, 23:47 Hey guys and gals, I changed out the stock yellow lenses with the smoke and they all started to crack. I took them off and used super glue to strenghten the cracks and barely tightened them and used lock-tite to keep them from falling off. Well after my 400 mile trip this weekend I noticed the cracks are much worse and actual holes have now formed. How in the He** do you manage to tighten them enough that they don't fall off, but not so much that they break? I was thinking a small metal sleve around the screw to act as a spacer, but that could be a very frustrating act tring to get it just right.
cantolina 13th December 2004, 23:50 Loc-Tite....medium (Blue)
You don't need to crank them down. Just "hand tighten" with loc-tite on the screws....
Albie1200 14th December 2004, 00:05 That is exactly what I did. I actually went and pulled the stock lenses from the garage and noticed thay were cracked as well. Considering the new bullet type, but with Xmas around the corner didn't want to spend the $$.
txsporty 14th December 2004, 00:43 You can get New Bullets on eBay pretty cheap!!! The Stealer wants Way to much for them!! :D
chipdog4 14th December 2004, 03:20 J&P has a kit that they sell for $80.
I've seen used front bullet signals go for $30, then add another $10 for shipping. Just as well get a new kit.

Are you talking about the smoke lenses your friendly H-D dealer sells?

Mine have no cracks in them. Of course they are only 6 months old.
883Hugger 14th December 2004, 05:30 No, I am pretty sure he is referring to the pre '02 style turn signals. I ended up swapping my turn signals for the bullet style. I found a use set at a local custom shop for $20 dollars and the other set came from my dads bike when he put front running lights on. I put the clear lenses on mine.
Albie1200 14th December 2004, 18:45 Yea, 883Hugger is right it is a '98, and the old ones use 2 screws instead of the lens just popping in. Does anyone know how many wires are on the bullet type? I know mine have 3, but I thought I saw somewhere that the bullets only have 2.
883Hugger 14th December 2004, 21:04 I can't remember how many wires there were, but when making the swap to the bullets, I didn't run into any problems with the wiring. They wired up fine.
txsporty 15th December 2004, 04:42 I have a set of Dual Filaments New in the Box, and they have 3 wires!!!
Albie1200 15th December 2004, 19:04 Thanks TX, I lookes on Ebay and they only have the fronts. I am still debating on getting new lenses or the bullets.
cbrunson 15th December 2004, 21:09 Hey Turbota, Where did you get that taillight lens? I like it. I want one. I must have one. Please help me satisfy this craving.
Albie1200 16th December 2004, 19:27 Well I finally made a decision. I do like the bullets, but too much $$ before christmas. Ordered new lenses form Chicago(they are still giving a 20% discount, it appears after you make the order) and will probably buy the bullets later in the year. Thanks to everyone for the help!
engine 17th December 2004, 01:11 I just got a set of 4 Deuce style bullet signal lamps for $56 at Jireh cycles. they are awesome...
mnkybrz 24th December 2004, 23:00 I like them too Turbota. Did you get those from HD? Is it the whole light mechanism or just a new lens? Did you change out the clear light bulb for a yellow one?
