Long drive to Edmonton...but at least the weather cooperated.
It was chilly, but the track was well prepped and very sticky.
It was my second race with bars and i added a slick to the mix. Last race my best 60 foot was a 1.69 on the street tire.
I had found no time to practice with the slick, and the two testruns as well as the 3 qualifiers were all plagued with terrible 60 foots on the slick....1.8s over and over due to the engine bogging. The slick was hooking up on the sticky track and bringing the revs down. I tried to laucnh at higher revs 4500 then 5000 then 5500 ,It helped only once and that run was first round eliminations and resulted in a 1.72 60 foot and a 10.66 et at 135 mph...I won the round. Next round had a huge bog....I had treed the other racer with an 083 reaction to his .200 ,but the bog had me a half second behind at the 1/8th....so the fella in the other lane sensing his lead let off...well once the bog was done the bike took off and I mph'd hard on the guy and was within inches at the finish line....he had a 10.44 to my 10.66 but my reaction was enough better that he barely madeit cross the line ahead of me, I really thought I had snuck up on him at 136 mph to his 95 mph finish...it was so close....I guess he didnt expect me to make up ground that quick. But it was over for me. Need to get in more practice to eliminate that bog. But the mph shows the power is there and the bike was back on the wheels till at least 330...see the picture.
The ladder was not friendly as I was in the top half and had to meet last races winner (beat hom this time...no bog) in the first round ,then the #1 qualifier in the 2nd round....while the bottom half winner in the first round got a bye to the finals....oh well, got enough points to make a move up to 3rd in the points due to beating the guy in first and having another fella who only makes two races a year take out the # 2 guy.
Next race is mission in 3 weeks...I will be in Spokane practicing this weekend...gotta get over the bog...jetting....tire pressure and lanuch rpm....

How is your clutch set up??????

Normally run a lock up with bars........and the slip is adjusted in the clutch....with idea being to get just enuff slip to keep the revs there but hold the front up

do you know of a lock up that fits without primary mods?

No... I havn't looked at putting trainer wheels on the sporty.....

I thought you may have been running one tho.....

Ya may just have to learn how to slip the clutch a bit more on take off.....as I can get down to mid 1.7's WITHOUT bars...so you should be WAAAY under that

As I said...if ya boggin down then ya need less clutch engagement.... you need to keep the motor revs up high enuff that it will hold them on the launch and thru first

pulled a 1.69 60 foot on the street tire....
they guys are tellin me not to feather the clutch with the slick, just to dump it...
I will get some practice this weekend.

try with higher revs then...as the clutch will naturally slip a bit

I wouldn't feather the clutch like ya would without bars but I normally set the slip in the springs and weights on the lock-ups...

The idea is just enuff slip to hold it's revs...

look at your top doorslammers and fuel cars ...ALL clutch...no gears

More revs and dump the clutch. I mean over 6000 rpm. You really want to have the slick breaking loose just a bit. Slipping is hard on clutches, better to let the tire do the slipping.
I did 1.5 60 ft times on a street tire that was wore down to damn near a slick. :D
Rev between 6000 and 7000 and dump it a few times and see if ya can make the tire break loose a bit. You should see 1.4 times when ya get it right.
Ted :clap

yep ted , thats the plan...the first one at least since thats what I figure and it adds no cost of having to buy a lock up. I have my limiter at 7250 and I shift at 6500-6750. I will try the higher rev dump and if it still bogs then I will alternate some med and stiff springs on the scorpion clutch.
