76 XLH with stock oil tank, -side mounted, top filler, big filler hole and cap. I have been looking for an Oil Temperature dipstick for it, - Oil Cap with built in Temperature Gauge -but doesn't look like they make them for any Sportster before 1982, i.e. Side Fillers, small filler hole. If I can't get that, then I guess the next best thing would be a Oil Temperature gauge and sending unit that I could rig up somehow. Anyone ever seen anything like that for the older XLs?

Unsure of the temp gauge, I know they make the oil pressure gauge, I have one installed on my 73'. I would imagine any of them would work as long as you can get one with the same size hole and same threads.
Hope to help,
-Chris.

They make inline oil temperature sensors for VW's. These can be adapted to fit inline with the oil supply line.

not that I know of... you could try on of those stick on fish tank termometers on your oil bag
that would be good for a laugh
